#MittenLitten

A day late, but wanted to celebrate the Michigan state wide interlibrary loan system!

smilingshelves I've only recently started taking advantage of MelCat, and it's wonderful! I don't know why I waited so long to use it! 6y
CrowCAH @smilingshelves I agree! Once I found out about it, I started using it! 😊 6y

1️⃣ Five. The city library did not give any for younger children, which angered me to no end. How unfair!
2️⃣ I mostly use interlibrary loans. I order online and pick up in person.
3️⃣ No. When my son was very young and I was still at home, we did go there all the time, but almost never now.
4️⃣ I miss them! I have my borrow cards from Seconday 2nd to Seconday 5th.
5️⃣ Depends on the research project.

Awful news from the library today. Up till now interlibrary loans within the State system were not limited. Given the rather limited council collections, they were an essential part of my reading, especially for SF, YA, and graphic novels.

Today I was notified that starting in 48 hours, ILLs will be limited to one per month, and that no fiction books less than a year old (purchase date, not release) will be eligible.

StaceyKondla 🙁 that is awful 7y
hike.read.repeat So sad! When I worked at a public library I did the ILLs and definitely took advantage of it. We did not limit or charge which was great bc it was a small library in a rural area. 7y

stargazerblue49 Oh, man. I just joined my new local library and have already gotten several ILL graphic novels. This is sucky. 😞 7y
Lauredhel The library's suggestion is that we join other council libraries and schlep around. Which, hello, disabled? I'm trying to get a crip lobby together for accessibility exemptions. 7y
drokka So, you sort of need to figure out what can make the trial period fail in order to return to the original method. You need a lit-spy. 😁 7y
BethM Our library went to this a few years ago, it's not fun. However by me, the neighboring town didn't opt out of ill so I can get them that way.. I hope that's a possibility for you! 7y
Lauredhel @BethM no, this is the whole state (about one third the size of the USA) restricting ILLs. I could join a neighboring library to borrow their books, but with my disability the going back and forth is difficult. 7y

BethM @Lauredhel that sucks I'm sorry! Hopefully you guys can lobby enough to get it changed. 7y
ReadingEnvy Geez basically omits most reasons for interlibrary loan. Complain complain! In this case you pay those bills and this is not right. 7y
jfalkens That stinks! I depend on my ILLs for the fantasy I read. My library decided to weed their's down to almost nothing. 7y
megt That sucks! I can only imagine that library staff and other patrons are also dismayed about this. Hopefully librarians can compile a lot of feedback, data, etc over the next few months to show the impact of the loss of ILL on patrons. 7y
minkyb That certainly sucks! 7y
SandiParsons I asked for my ILL stats - I borrowed 58 last. My letter of complaint is in progress 7y
