Jenkinss sassy heroines, well-drawn secondary characters and seamless incorporation of black history result in a fresh, winning historical. Publishers Weekly Beverly Jenkins has reached romance superstardom! Detroit Free Press It's 1876 and Dr. Viveca Lancaster is frustrated by the limits placed upon female physicians of color. When she is offered the chance to set up a practice in the small all Black community of Grayson Grove, Michigan she leaves her California home and heads east. The very determined Viveca is one of the few nineteenth century Black women to graduate from the prestigious Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania, so she knows all about fighting for her rights. But she may need more than determination to face down the distractingly handsome Nate Grayson, the Grove's bull-headed mayor. Nate Grayson goes to the train station expecting Dr. V. Lancaster to be a man. Of course he does. But when the lovely dark-skinned Viveca introduces herself, he is at first speechless...then full of some very loud and very choice words, ordering her back on the train and out of his town! It's 1876 and women aren't supposed to be doctors, men are. Nate Grayson is prepared to fight for that belief. However, he isn't prepared for this extraordinary beautys stubbornness and fire, nor for the vivid way she heals, then steals his heart.

Cheesy? In some parts. Predictable? Yes. Unrealistic? Maybe, somethings I think could be harder for Vivid at that time. But I really enjoyed this historical romance set in 1876. I appreciate the historical events mentioned in the story. Vivid is a character inspired by Maria W. Stewart and Mary Shadd, “...who uplifted not only the race but the nation as well”. You will love Vivid, an assertive woman and also will love her family. 3.8⭐️

Gissy I didn‘t know that this story continues😱I need book 2 ASAP! ☺️

https://instagram.com/shopbhaute?igshid=mpuhb9k5a0c0 is my favorite black owned business. Also, https://www.facebook.com/MonetRozay/
I collect coffee mugs, preferably blinged out mugs.
Right now I love Cocoa Bombs. Coffee and tea.
My favorite artist is Brandy.
If I could have lunch with any black celebrity I would choose Will Smith or Angela Bassett.

Chelleo Have you tried the chocolate bombs at https://www.bella-sweets.com/ and https://www.etsy.com/shop/karmainthekitchen ? They‘re both local. I‘ve had chocolate from Karma‘s but the bombs were sold out when I went. (edited) 3y
S3V3N @Chelleo My first bomb came from Karma in the Kitchen. Now, I buy from https://www.facebook.com/MonetRozay/ They are sooo good. I am going to add her to my post for favorite black owned business. She is located in Middletown local to us. Check her out if you are looking to purchase some. I‘ve tried several of her desserts and everything has been excellent. 3y

I took this picture last week as I was cleaning my sunglasses while listening to Vivid. I loved this book. Predictable at times, but educational.

1. Vivid by Beverly Jenkins 2. Garter Snakes 3. Making, but repurposing is my favorite. I make crafts. Wreaths are my favorite to make. I love taking old, beat up furniture and giving it new life. I even reuse it unconventional ways.

I really enjoyed the mix of historical insight and the romance in this novel. Vivid is a strong female - a POC female doctor in the late 1800s, which shows how strong she truly is - who falls for a well known gentleman in town. Jenkins sets her characters with back stories related to pieces of true history - the massacre at Fort Pillow (US Civil War battle) and prominent black politicians, for example - with a good fictional story.

I love me some Beverly Jenkins! Her heroines are always strong and interesting and I love the history lesson in her novels. This is set at the start of Jim Crow laws and when African Americans started questioning if they should continue supporting the Republican party. #blitsyhistorymonth
