I‘m a huge Mad Men fan and after watching the show countless times, I decided to finally dive in to the Mad Men reading challenge, which takes you through all of the books shown read by the characters on the show. I‘ll post the link below if anyone is interested but I‘m just doing it at my own pace and in no particular order. I started with this classic book of poetry which is a quick read and available on openlibrary.org for free! I just ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Started getting into poetry over the last 6 months or so and this is definitely worth reading. It‘s an eclectic collection of poems imo and while I didn‘t love it, I did enjoy it. 4⭐️ #MadMen #MadMenReadingChallenge #poetry #classics 🥃📚🤓 9mo

I think I love like Frank O‘Hara, and that‘s probably not a good thing. No one writes love and loss w such sweet and wry vulnerability. The title poem was my favorite (“why should I share you? Why don‘t you get rid of someone else for a change?”) Closely followed by Mayakovsky (“be sick as I am sick”) and Sleeping on the Wing (“Curiosity, the passionate hand of desire “). I‘ve been on a poetry kick & this book fed me. Good for reckless romantics.

HBD to New York poet Frank O'Hara, who celebrated his birthday on this day (look it up 😂). I first encountered his work through Mad Men...what are some strange pop culture places you've encountered new authors/titles?

mouchette I discovered my favorite novella Mouchette because I was really into a band called Funeral for a Friend in middle school. They have a song titled "To Die Like a Mouchette" that lead my down the rabbit hole. 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I read Dune when I was in high school, thanks to an Iron Maiden song. Same with Lolita (kudos, Sting: "just like the old man in that famous book by Nabokov") ?? 8y

BookReviewFAIL A Tree Grows In Brooklyn was read by a character in Band of Brothers. I guess both stories are about survival, so a logical choice to read while sitting in a German foxhole. 8y
