Jules and Reba are best friends in a small town in Mississippi. Southern novels in the summer just feel right. Jules is the girl who does all and Reba is the quiet, reserved girl. Or is she. Good characters with diary entries to set the story straight. Everyone has secrets.🤫

Jules and Reba are friends, one is innocent and one is worldly, or are they? Good story that is told through a diary that is left behind to fill in all the misconceptions of what happened on that bridge😳

Doing some reading by the pool during my little weekend getaway. The weather was perfect. I am really enjoying reading all your comments @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @Kappadeemom . I am so intrigued on how this is going to end for Jules and August. #LMPBC #Round2 #GroupS

#rumorhasit that Julie might have the diary of her murdered, best friend Reba. And was Julie the murderer? Does the diary hold the secrets? I just started this for #lmpbc #groups and there are so many unanswered questions at the beginning of this book. #adelesmaymashup

I fully admit I would have never chosen this book on my own. It is @Kappadeemom ‘s choice for our #groupS in #LMPBC. I really enjoyed notating a book that was different for me. The story kept me guessing and the teenage angst was relatable to me. The characters were very unlike able. Some of them redeemed themselves, or at least came to a place where I understood their motives. Overall, I liked it, and read it in under 48 hours!

I ♥️ Litsy. I got some great bookish mail today.

@britt_brooke was kind enough to send me The Lover‘s Dictionary after I commented on her review AND she remembered that I had also stacked We Believe the Children when she reviewed it so she included that too. Thank you so much!

@Kappadeemom sent me her selection for #LMPBC and also included the cutest little 🌻 kits. My kids about DIED. They have already planted their flowers. 😄 Thank you!

Mdargusch So sweet @britt_brooke and @Kappadeemom 💛💛💛 6y

3⭐️. Overall, I liked the book. It was fairly easy to read and the story was interesting. For a debut novel I thought the writing was good. I particularly liked the use of Reba‘s diary. I also liked how the intensity of the diary entries coincided with the intensity of the experiences Julie and August had in Mississippi trying to obtain the diary. https://lharvey250.tumblr.com/post/158476790049/secrets-of-southern-girls-haley-...

It's rainy here today. I was looking forward to taking my girls to the pool but instead I'm going to curl up on the couch with a good book.

This book has a great premise: Julie accidentally kills her best friend Reba in their youth and Julie is not held to account. As an adult, Julie returns to her hometown to find Reba's diary and revisit her death. But the execution doesn't meet the promise. The dialogue and diary entries are unrealistic and clunky and don't feel authentic. These missteps make this novel a pass IMHO

Well-ReadNeck Taking a readathon break to catch up on some #netgalley reviews 7y
Yellowpigeon This had a similar premise (southern girl kills someone as a teen, revisits as an adult) but was well done. 7y
