Wonder Woman: Earth One
Wonder Woman: Earth One | Grant Morrison
25 posts | 34 read | 6 to read
From the masterful minds of Grant Morrison (FINAL CRISIS, THE MULTIVERSITY) and Yanick Paquette (SWAMP THING, BATMAN, INC.) comes the most provocative origin of Wonder Woman you've ever seen--a wholly unique retelling that still honors her origins. For millennia, the Amazons of Paradise Island have created a thriving society away from the blight of man. One resident, however, is not satisfied with this secluded life--Diana, Princess of the Amazons, knows there is more in this world and wants to explore, only to be frustrated by her protective mother, Hippolyta. Diana finds her escape when Air Force pilot Steve Trevor, the first man she has ever seen, crashes onto their shores. With his life hanging in the balance, Diana ventures into the long forbidden world of men. The Amazons chase after her and bring her back to Paradise Island in chains to face trial for breaking their oldest law--staying separated from the world that wronged them. Thought-provoking yet reverent, thoroughly modern but still timeless, the power and courage of Paradise Island's greatest champion--Wonder Woman--is introduced in this new addition to DC Comics's New York Times best-selling Earth One original graphic novel series.

PuddleJumper @ozma.of.oz I was really disappointed as I actually like the art style... Except the crotch shots and blowjob faces 4y

Really enjoyed this. Great modern beginning for Wonder Woman. I‘d say it‘s a bit mature so don‘t let your kids read it lol. But it‘s an excellent read.

This is one of the only superhero comics I‘ve read (for @bookriot #ReadHarder of course) so I don‘t feel qualified to evaluate it in a meaningful way. This one tells the Wonder Woman origin story and how she left Paradise Island for the world of man (not a choice I would have made TBH- that place looked GREAT). I did love the artwork! I liked how this frame shows a woman enjoying completely her own strength and power.

Starting off #litsypartyofone with some Wonder Woman. I see it has mixed reviews here, but it will have to do until others are in at the library.

JackieSmith I haven't read this one, but I love Nameless! 7y

Here's what my kitchen table looks like at the moment. I've just grilled some hamachi kama or yellowtail cheek in the oven and we'll eat it with some Brussels sprouts and Japanese rice. #bookanddinner

DebinHawaii Yum! One of my favorites! 😋🍴👍 7y

My girl Wonder Woman always kicks ass and I've been looking forward to this for a LONG time. #superheroes #wonderwoman

RadicalReader @Avidreader6 what is your favorite Wonder Woman comic? 7y
Avidreader6 @RadicalReader straight to the tough question, huh? I've got to give serious love to Rebirth Wonder Woman and I know it's new, but the art is gorgeous and they've confirmed as canonically bi and I love it. Wish I could take a pic bc even the cover has me sighing happily. 7y
RadicalReader @Avidreader6 nothing wrong with tough questions always makes thoughts more in depth and provoking than standard ones 7y
Avidreader6 And normally, DC is not my go to, but I love Diana. I think her and Carol Danvers would get along like gangbusters. 7y

2.5 stars. I wanted to read this because I loved Wonder Woman when I was a kid. So naturally, I expected to love this and I didn't. The characters are just cardboard cutouts. The action isn't especially exciting. Guess I'll find another way to get my WW fix. #readharder

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Darn! I really could use a great WW fix too! 7y
moranadatter @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Have you tried The Legend of Wonder Woman? I love the Etta Candy in this one. 7y
LeeRHarry Maybe hang out until the movie comes out later in the year? 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @LeeRHarry Oh I will definitely be going to the movie! 7y
moranadatter Sadly, DC cancelled volume 2, but it's a great standalone origin story. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @kmdartist Oh that stinks! 😪 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @kmdartist That does stink! But I'll look for this one too! 7y

Wasn't able to join my local #womensmarch today so I'm switching over to reading Wonder Woman for some fictional solidarity as I jump back into my #24in48

In its attempt to provide a strong feminist message, it achieves quite the opposite. Very awkward storytelling from Morrison. Paquette's art saves this disappointment at times.

This book returns to wonder woman's roots and I loved it. The chain and bondage theme is very much a part of her original story lines, and I love the return of Candy even if she's irritating so far. The art is wonderful. A great blend of the classic stories to create something new

Smart and odd. Not everything about it works - Paquette's 'good girl' art gets in the way of the book's message at times - but a funny, kinky, character-driven Wonder Woman comic like this is nevertheless a true rarity.

This was thematically incredible and brave. I hope there is more to come soon. The story feels like it's only the beginning of something great

Mentallofilth They have two sequels planned! 8y
ArznersFishingRod @Mentallofilth that's great to hear. This has the makings of a truly definitive story, as different as some details are 8y
Mentallofilth Though it is frustrating that we're getting 4 different Wonder Woman origin stories in 2016, as though DC just keeps trying to pin it down. 8y

I finally picked up this book and I'm loving it. Morrison's version is simultaneously very different and incredibly true to the character's history

Paquette's colors are great and the art is really interesting but the story is...not good. Wait for Rucka's WW instead of picking this up.

SGJ Thanks for the warning. 8y
brenna Are the colours not Nathan Fairbain's on this one? I only ask because I think of him as one of the small handful of celebrity colourists. 8y
MelodySchreiber Ah bummer! 8y
