This is the story of WW2 & Anne Frank told from the POV of the tree in the courtyard. It includes several scenes from the diary including this Hanukkah scene. A really well done way to introduce kids to the holocaust. I especially liked the note it ends on. The tree dies, people try harder to save it than they did Anne, when they can‘t they gather the seed pods and replant them all over the world.

“The tree made her blossoms extra bright that spring.“

I think this book would be good for older children. Younger children may not understand what the book is trying to convey.

The Tree in the Courtyard by Jeff Gottesfeld, 2016. The story is about Anne Frank and how she hid in her attic and wrote in her journal. The book tells the story from the perspective of the tree outside the window. I thought this was interesting, I never read a book where the point of view was not from a human.

“Her seeds and saplings have been planted with love. One grows in New York City, where twin towers once stood. Another grows at an Arkansas high school, England, Argentina, France... All around the world.“

I would use this book in my classroom because I feel as though this topic (Germans vs. Jewish) isn't talked about as much as well anymore and this book would shed light on the subject but in a lighter way through the perspective of the tree.

The Tree in the Courtyard: Looking Through Anne Frank's Window written by Peter McCarty and Jeff Gottesfeld. Tells the story of Anne Frank's view from the attic where she was in hiding, but it's interesting because the story is told by the perspective of the tree. The story has research that is well blended, making the details appear essential.

“They are so enhanced they cannot speak”

I would read this book to a group of older elementary students. It's a very moving and will allow them to connect with children from another time period.

This book was very moving. It told the story of Anne Frank had written down in her journal, but in the perspective of the tree outside the window. At the end of the book, the author provides plenty of information about Ann Frank and where the tree can be found today. This is a very special tale that everyone should read.

“There, the girl would read, stroke the cat, and brush her unruly hair.”

Touching book! However, I think it may be hard for children to understand the book in a deeper way.

The Tree in the Courtyard by Peter McCarty was published in 2016. The story is based on Anne Frank and her writings. She used to look outside and observe things that were occurring. She would write in her diary about the war and the tree that sat outside her window.

“The tree recalled how few had tried to save the girl.”

This book was so good! I think it would be a good resource to teach young children about Anne Frank and a little bit about WWII without giving too many details that could be inappropriate for the age group.

The Tree in the Courtyard by Jeff Gottesfeld is a piece of historical fiction. It was published in 2016. This book is written from the perspective of a tree that was right outside the annex that Anne Frank and her family hid in during World War Two. It talks about how it saw Anne writing, playing with her cat and kissing a boy. It also saw Anne get taken away. The tree wondered why so many people tried to help it when it was dying & not the girl.

“Then one spring, she stretched above the orange roofs and took in the beautiful city. She spread roots and reached skyward in peace. Until war came.“

This historical fiction book was able to create an interesting timeline of events based on true things that happened in history. It used a different character, the tree, to see through its eyes. The story is authentic to itself and blends the right mix of history needed to understand what happened, and a fictional viewpoint to create an intriguing story!

I always found a kid's outlook on a difficult history timeline to be important and interesting. Allowing myself to be put into Anne Franks shoes, I feel like I understand more and feel more passionate for this issue because of her. This book is great at helping kids relate and letting them put their imagination to use. It talks about what the tree outside her window would've seen which is an interesting perspective to take I think kinds enjoy!

She wrote for hours. Even when her father called her, she wrote. The tree loved the sight of her.

I liked how the tree's saplings and seeds have been planted around the world as a symbol of peace just as the words of Anne Frank. I also enjoyed the brown ink on the watercolor paper for the illustrations.

This book is told from the perspective of the tree outside Anne Frank's window. The tree watched her as she laughed and wrote in her diary. The tree saw strangers invading the city and warplanes roaring overhead and Anne watching this from her window. The tree watched as Anne and her family were taken away and how her father returned from war, alone. This book gently covers historical events like the arrival of Nazis and some important moments.

This is an amazing work of historical fiction. I love how simple the story line it but how powerful it is. It would be a great way to introduce Anne Frank and her story to a young group of students. The illustrations are all neutral colors but very detailed! I love this book!

I would love to have this book for my students. It is another great book to read during a history lesson. Also a great book to discuss with children about jumping into someone else‘s shoes and seeing what life was like for them

The Tree in the Courtyard: Published in 2016 this book is a twist on the story of Anne Frank and the diary she kept. It is a very deep story about how a tree stood for years, loved by all who saw it. However people seemed to dismiss the girl who was one day taken away and never seen again. This is another extremely important book to teach children about, and it is a very accurate depiction of what life was like for Anne Frank during this time

Wow. The story of a tree in the courtyard in front of the building where Anne Frank's family was in hiding. Great perspective, beautiful illustrations, and I had no idea that there were saplings from the tree growing all over the world, mostly in places notable in the quest for freedom and tolerance. Fantastic.
