I like this book because it shows the children that sometimes it‘s important to push through struggles in order to be successful!

Drawing From Memory by Allen Say was written in 2011. It tells the story of how Allen became the artist that he is today. He was shunned by his family but was in turn able to become famous. He worked hard in classes, and was an inspiration to many people.

“One brother wanted to save lives. The other brother wanted to dazzle crowds. With Day- Glo, they did both.”

I like this book because the illustrations are vibrant and fun! The invention of the brothers is exemplified throughout the story which is really interesting.

The Day- Glo Brothers was written by Chris Barton and published in 2009. The brothers created different vibrant colors. They created ultraviolet colors and analyzed all of them. They were able to create some vibrant billboards that stood out to everyone and were glowing. They began helping others in the war, and dazzling crowds.

“He is crazy,” the people jeered. They feared his signs were evil.

This book is motivational for the children. It shows them that if you work hard, things can work out! He was successful in writing a language.

Sequoyah by James Rumford was published in 2004. A young man works to create a writing system for the Indians. However, he has to work hard to write on paper because he doesn‘t know English. He was able to do and worked hard to be successful!

“Lily attended dancing classes and art school.”

I like this book because it shows a brave women who travels alone! It will be motivational for the children.

Lily Renee, Escape Artist was written by Trina Robbins and published in 2011. Lily lives in Austria in which she is into dance and creating artwork. However, the Nazis then march in and the country is no longer safe. Lily then is forced to leave the country and travel alone.

“Women must get into politics and stay in.”

An inspirational book for young children! The book is also informative. It shows that women are capable of anything just like men.

Eleanor, Quiet No More was written by Doreen Rappaport and published in 2009. Eleanor had a rough life has a young child dealing with the death of her 2 parents. However, she was strong and able to overcome these struggles. She met Franklin whom she became happily married to and extremely supportive as he ran for political positions.

“They brought him to Earth and watched him become a superstar.”

This book is perfect for children to learn about superhero‘s! A lot of young children have a strong interests in superhero‘s!

Boys of Steel by Marc Tyler Nobleman was published in 2008. The book discusses how superman came to be. Jerry Siegel was always a writer while others flirted with girls or played sports. He wanted to save real people rather than fiction characters saving fiction characters.

I like this book because it shows children how you can start in a small position and grow to a large position.

Jack‘s Path of Courage was written by Doreen Rappaport and published in 2010. The book discusses John F. Kennedy‘s hardships as a kid. He slowly makes his way through political office and eventually reaches the point of president. He solves many situations throughout.

“Einstein comes to mean not fat baby, or angry child, or odd boy, but great thinker.”

Helps explain some of the ways that Albert Einstein became intelligent along with the materials he worked with. Interesting story to hear!

Odd Boy Out by Don Brown was published in 2004. The book tells the life about Albert Einstein. From a young age, he was always interested in math. He didn‘t enjoy studying subjects he didn‘t like and he didn‘t enjoy playing sports. He grew to be incredibly intelligent in math and has become well known today.

“To prove that a Negro can become a major dress designer.”

Good motivational book for young kids! It shows them that they are strong and can do anything they attempt.

Fancy Party Gowns was written by Deborah Blumenthal and published in 2017. The book is about a young lady, Ann who is African American and learns how to sew dresses. She creates dresses for John F. Kennedy‘s wife. However, she does not get recognized because she is African American. She proves that she can do everything and she becomes successful!

“It is 277 miles long, as much as 18 miles wide, and more than a mile deep, but it‘s much more than just a big hole in the ground.”

I think this book would be good for children in order to see more about one of the national parks in our country.

Grand Canyon was written by Jason Chin and published in 2017. The book talks about the Grand Canyon and all the features that come with it. This text is very informative with good illustrations to represent the different aspects of the National Park. I think children would find it fascinating to see all the parts incorporated.

This book would help children learn about spiders and some of the actions that they take!

Spiders by Nic Bishop was published in 2007. The book describes a lot of different spiders and the characteristics that they have. Although they all might look different, they have similar characteristics. I like this book because the illustrations are large and realistic allowing children to get a good representation of each one.

“High above there is the moon, cold and quiet, no air, no life, but glowing in the sky.”

This book teaches the children about outer space specifically the moon and earth! I like this book for my classroom.

Moonshot was written by Brian Floca and published in 2009. The book describes the flight of Apollo 11. This book is beneficial for students to hear because they would learn about a launch to the moon and the experiences that came with it. It has illustrations that better exemplify the text.

I like this book because it talks about a lot of different birds! It explains the meaning behind the movements birds make.

Bird Talk by Lita Judge was published in 2012. The book discusses how birds talk and what they are saying. Some birds make noises to find a mate and some make noises to show off. This book would teach children about all the different kinds of birds and what noises they make!

“At bedtime, the koala sometimes wedges itself between the branches of a tree so it won‘t tumble out in its sleep.”

Good informative book for young children. Animals are also a good topic for discussion.

Time to Sleep was written by Steve Jenkins and published in 2011. The book describes a number of different animals and their best habits for falling asleep. The children would find it interesting to hear about the different ways animals sleep. Children could relate by discussing how they fall asleep.

“This shark is one of the largest and deadliest predators in the world.”

Good informative text! I like this book because animals are important figures in children‘s lives.

Apex Predators by Steve Jenkins was published in 2017. The book goes through a lot of different predators that eat other animals. It is a good lesson to teach the kids. It informs them on animals that might be dangerous. I also like the illustrations because the students can see large pictures of what the animals look like.

“But the crew keeps the lightship anchored. She holds her one sure spot.”

I like this book because it can give the children a better image on what might be in a ship. Many kids may not be able to ever go in a ship so at least they would be able to visualize one.

Lightship by Brian Floca was published in 2007. The book talks about the ship and what parts that the ship has. The book also discusses all the different crew members on the ship. I like this book because it helps children understand what is on such a big form of transportation.

“Wiggle wiggle wiggle, Pop! Out walk more stick insects!”

Good information about the walking stick! It teaches the children about an insect and what it can experience outside.
