Wolf's Hour
Wolf's Hour | Robert McCammon
11 posts | 19 read | 16 to read
This book is a remarkable tale of pulse-pounding excitement with a uniquely sympathetic, fascinating portrait of the werewolf as nobel warrior-and conflicted being. Complex, compelling and utterly real.

#Movie2BookRecs @Klou
Prompt: Red. Riding Hood

There are so many good werewolf novels. So I choose two very different types. The Path of Thorns is more for readers who prefer a fairy tale type of story. The Wolf's Hour is an alternative WWII story and might appeal more to readers who want a more realistic setting.

KathyWheeler Those look interesting. I loved Benjamin Percy‘s Red Moon and Stephen King‘s Cycle of the Werewolf. 1y
TheSpineView @KathyWheeler IKR! So many good ones out there. I have been meaning to read Anne Rice's The Wolf Gift the first book in a series by the same name. 1y
KathyWheeler @TheSpineView I‘ve been meaning to read that one too. 1y

Imagine James Bond or Jack Reacher fighting the Nazis. Oh, and he's a werewolf. McCammon's werewolves are a noble, doomed breed and the WW2 heroics are great fun.

CaramelLunacy That sounds so fun 4y

I am only buying one book this month. And it‘s about werewolves fighting nazis.

Reggie How funny!!! The only book I haven‘t read in this picture is the Wolf‘s Hour. I love McCammon. Have you read any of his new stuff? The Border or The Listener, I loved them both but I had a problem in The Listener. I didn‘t do his historical fiction series. I do love him though. 4y
amanda__reads__horror I‘ve only read (and loved!!) Boy‘s Life! Excited to finally read more!! 4y

Super enjoyable. For anyone who likes werewolf novels, historical fiction, war novels, sweeping epic sagas, James Bond-style action novels... This book is a mishmash of genres, and it works really well. The writing is not stellar (ugh, those sex scenes are, uh, no thanks), and I'll call out the author for the Plot Device Ladies (although Chesna is pretty cool). But I was still into this book.

Already nearly 200 pages into this, which I am told by @Nazgul93 is one of the best in the underwhelming pantheon of werewolf fiction.

athorne Dude. I picked up one of this guy's books too! Stinger. I look forward to reading it! 7y
respekt1111 @TheGhastlyGrimoire I read Swan Song by him last year and really enjoyed it. You'll have to let me know about Stinger! 7y
athorne @respekt1111 Will do! It caught my eye at the Friend's of the Library Fall Book Sale! 7y

I love werewolves! They have always been my favorite creature! The wolfman is one of my favorite movies! And Wolf's hour is one of my favorite werewolf books. There's not to many good werewolf books and movies out there. But occasionally you'll find a good one. #vampireorwerewolf

elawsan The Wolfman is great, also An American Werewolf In London and Dog Soldiers. Haven't read many books inn it though. Try Nightwatch by Sergei Lukyanenko, not necessarily werewolf but shape shifters. 7y
Nazgul93 @elawsan Thanks! I read Nightwatch and loved it! I've been meaning to read the rest of the series. 7y
