Murder at the Book Group
Murder at the Book Group | Maggie King
7 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
For fans of Anne Canadeo comes a fun and sassy cozy mystery in which one woman must solve the murder of a book group member and untangle a web of secrets hidden by her bookish cohorts. Hazel Rose never dreamed that the murder mystery book group she and her friend Carlene started would stage a real murder. Nevertheless, the normally composed Carlene is unusually angry and rattled one night during a book group discussion and dies after drinking cyanide-spiked tea. Despite a suicide note, Hazel is skeptical; Carlene never seemed suicidalshe was busy making plans for her future. Incidentally, Carlene was married to Hazels ex-husband, and Hazel has always suspected there might be something more to her past than she let on. How much does anyone really know about Carlene Arness? And did she die by her own hand or someone elses? Hazel begins a search for the truth that produces no shortage of motives, as she unearths the past that Carlene took great pains to hide. And most of those motives belong to the members of her very own book group Featuring memorable characters and a wicked sense of humor, Murder at the Book Group shows the darker side of a book club where reading isnt about pleasureits about payback.

This book was pretty good, I couldn't tell who did it until the big reveal at the end. However, it was a lot of speculation and who had divorced who and talks of a colonoscopy and bad hair dye jobs. Overall good if you want a middle aged female main character and all the angst with it but not if you want a murder mystery

Pickpick

I didn‘t hate this book, but I didn‘t love it either. It‘s competent, but that‘s all. I did like that most of the main characters were near my age and were active not doddering women. Lower end of the pick scale, and that may be because I like the narrator. Here‘s some pictures from today‘s 5.4 mile walk.

Freespirit Looks like a lovely area! 5y

My husband and I went to a viewing of the night sky event at Bellingrath Gardens. That little white dot is Jupiter. I wish I could‘ve gotten my camera lined up properly with the telescope lens; through it, I could see the whole planet and its moons. Listened to both these books today. Got in a 2.11 mile exercise walk and an additional 1.49 miles just walking around. Eating consisted of plenty of veggies & protein.

I had been listening to this at night, but I switched it to my walk since I finished Bewitched and Betrothed. Had a good day today. We set up a bird feeder/bath area in our yard (see pic), cleaned our crowded porch so it can now be used for relaxation, and I got a 2.11 mile walk in. #bookfitnesschallenge #bfcr2 #goteam #audiowalk @wanderinglynn @Emilymdxn @cewilf @cobwebmoth @Megabooks @RachelO @TheEllieMo @Trashcanman

KathyWheeler FYI: my yard is crooked, not the birdbath.😄 5y

cobwebmoth Oh, I love your bird area! So pretty. 5y
KathyWheeler @cobwebmoth Thank you. We always wanted to have one but didn‘t want to expose the birds to our cats. Now our cats are all old, so we figure the birds are safe.😊 5y

I really could not get into this murder mystery. A member of the mystery book group dies during a meeting, with all things pointing to suicide. The various connections with the characters made this feel more soap opera than murder. But, I was surprised with the ending.
