While i can recommend this gripping memoir to a wide range of readers, it is of particular interest to milliners and hat enthusiasts. Trudi Ehrlich began her career as a fashionable milliner in Vienna, Austria in the 1920s. She trained in Paris as a young girl and worked her way up from a milliner's assistant to the owner/operator of her own boutique. Famous stars & wealthy ladies began buying her hats. And then the Nazis invaded Austria. 😬

I can‘t put this book down. I‘m so stressed for them, escaping Nazi-ruled Vienna! 😬

Good untold story of the Holocaust. Well written story of what you will do for love!

A lot of it reminded me of my trip to The Holocaust Museum and Memorial in DC. Just go!!!

I was at the train station and saw a small bookcase of used books that were gifts for travelers. Thought I would “just look”... but could not walk away without this one.

This is a short memoir that is packed with so much emotion as Trudy Ellis leaves Vienna with her family as they try to escape the Nazis. I read so many books about WWII, but this was a different take as the refugees try to survive in war torn London at the same time they try to convince the English that they are on the same side. Trudy also owns a millenary business, which adds an interesting side note about the fashion industry.

5/5 stars it was a good read. If you even slightly like fashion or history this book is for you. The authors story is so heart felt and told with an honesty that is endearing.
