I realized not too long ago, I hate YA. And I've always loathed magical realism. Yet, for WHATEVER reason (many, if I dig deep, lbh), I LOVE this book.

I managed to obliterate most of this book with a beer spill on a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago, but I believe Mr. Sedaris would be just fine with that?

Finishing this book feels like having been freed from something terrible. Like prison.

Love the sentiment; hate the insinuation that it's that simple.

I've read these paragraphs over and over .

You guys. This book is so good. You know that feeling when you have a huge stressor in your life and maybe you manage to forget it for a moment? And then BOOM, it crashes back in!? THIS BOOK and these characters' stressors were MY stressors for the whole 6 days during which I was reading it. MAN. I don't have children. But if I did, there's ZERO chance I would handle this with such calm and grace and... GREAT WISDOM which did Rosie and Penn.

As The Goldfinch remains on my all-time-favorites list, I thought it high time I read The Secret History. I've heard it's wonderful, I've heard it's awful; I'm looking so forward to forming my own opinion.

I feel badly about it, but I fucking hate this book. I'm on page 343 and cannot WAIT to be done. It's ruining my weekend and my will to live.
