This book was the definition of my childhood. I was visiting back home and I randomly remembered this book! Thank my stars that my mother kept it all these years. This is an interactive fiction book. You flip through the pages and on each page you can open flaps, doors, slid things up and down and etc! I had so much fun looking through this book again. I used to love reading this book when I was little! I mean who wouldn't when Barney is in it! This fiction book is about Barney and how he is making a painting for the reader. Every page he talks about a different color, and he gives a variety of different life like examples that have that color! This is a great book to help teach kids their colors. Yoko | Rosemary Wells
post image

This was one of my favorite books when I was little. I used to relate to Yoko. This fictional book is about a young kitten named Yoko and the struggles that she faces during lunchtime. Her classmates eat "regular" food while she eats her sushi. They make fun of her lunch and Yoko starts to feel sad. But in the end this raccoon named Timothy tries some of her sushi & they become friends! For more: http://www.rosemarywells.com #UCFLAE3414sp17

This is a very old childhood book of mine! This fictional children's picture book is about a dog named Martha and how she started speaking. It happened because her owner gave her a bowl of alphabet soup to eat. So the letters from the soup went to her brain instead of her stomach! She started to talk too much and it was getting her in trouble. For more: http://www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com/features/marthathetalkingdog/author.html #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding A classic character that many children love! 🐕 7y

This fictional children's literature book is a classic! I remember reading it all the time when I was in elementary school. It's about a bunch of different colorful animals and what they see. Each page is about one animal seeing an animal that is on the next page. This would be perfect for storytelling time in a Kindergarten classroom. "Actual Size" by Steve Jenkins is an amazing nonfiction book. It includes visually appealing pictures of animals both large and small! As well as each animals length, height, weight, and other interesting facts. For example: the length of a great white sharks tooth is 4 inches long! Children will love reading this book as well as learning real life facts about animals. For more: http://www.stevejenkinsbooks.com/books_list.html #UCFLAE3414sp17

krystag I love the pictures in this book and that it includes math! I want to be able to incorporate as many subjects in reading as I can and I always thought math would be the hardest! It's great to know there are books out there that can cover math standards! 7y
Slacorbiniere For students like myself who get anxiety from math, this would be a nice way to incorporate it! 7y
DrSpalding Math and literature; what a great combination! 7y

Another book I read was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. This fictional children's literature book is all about a baby caterpillar who eats through a variety of foods throughout the days of the week. Until finally it's time for him to form a cocoon around himself. At the end he comes out as a beautiful and colorful butterfly! If you would like to read more of his books visit: http://www.eric-carle.com/books.html #UCFLAE3414sp17

The One and Only Ivan | Katherine Applegate
post image

My independent read was "The One and Only Ivan" by Katherine Applegate. This fictional children's literature book is inspiring to the mind but heartbreaking to the soul. It is interesting to feel both of those at the same time. It is about a gorilla who is living inside of Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. He is still figuring out his past as well as his future. For more: http://us.macmillan.com/author/katherineapplegate/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

SimaraGauntlett I look forward to reading this emotional story about Ivan! 7y
DrSpalding The saddest part is that while this story is fictional it is based in truth. Ivan lived! 7y
