3.5/5 stars. I enjoyed this dark, fun adventure. It was a very quick read that could be taken in, in one sitting. I do think it could have done with more world building and character development though. But still worth the read especially for retelling fans!

4/5 stars. This was a very haunting book. An adult contemporary told from the view point of an 84 year old man of the summer he was 13 years old. Touching on many hard topics while also teaching life lessons. This book was beautifully written and heartbreakingly sad.
