The Lost Dreamer | Lizz Huerta

Pickpick

This book is extraordinary!

LOVE the magic, the way the natural world & animal world interact, & the way the Spirits behave & speak...which are all similar to the ways I have written them in some of my own stories.

Lizz Huerta has weaved an incredibly beautiful world that I want to tiptoe into & become a Dreamer, or a Litéx (healer), or a Ilkan (a Jaguar shifter), or be among one of the magical people, like the Kemi who are Singers.

AnnCrystal This is divided by two characters POVs, Indir and Saya. Some may find this slow going, as we follow each character and learn their stories. I enjoyed every page...even made me wish that this book was a clunkster instead of just 376 pages!

AnnCrystal We begin by being dropped right into the middle of chaos. The good and kind king is dying and dies. His estranged son comes to claim the throne, but he comes full of resentment and holding a secret that he is willing to kill to keep concealed.

Through the POV of Indir, we watch this political turmoil play out in the main city.

AnnCrystal Saya's POV takes us outside of the main city, where Saya begins a journey of self-discovery as she travels with strangers on a quest she doesn't fully understand. She is guided by Spirits & Dreams. Helped by Spirits & strangers who become fast friends. And little by little, she awakens a sleeping power within herself.

I had an inkling, early on, about Saya's POV, & then started to wonder about the truth of her identity. I was right!

AnnCrystal The cherry on top for me, is that this story takes place in Mesoamerica. My ancestral world. My 3rd great grandma's (grandmother of my mom's mother) people are from the Arizona area...but I consider the whole of the Americas as my Ancestral World. This fantasy is based on lands that were neighboring, neighbors of my ancestors neighbors??? 🤔 I've no real clue 🤗.

Another book that I Wish had been available to read when I was a teenager!
