Day 9 #Scarathlon Photo Challenge

Tanith Lee‘s books are often #Dark. Dark Dance is one of my favorites by her.

I loved Tanith Lee's writing when I read an anthology of her stories a few months ago and I was looking forward to read this book and it didn't disappoint. A pick!

@TheAromaOfBooks I am happily reporting that this was my July #BookSpin and it also gave me a #BookSpinBingo for this month. Not to mention it advanced me one more step in the Q3 #PromptMaze. 😃

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Love it when a book makes you feel bonus accomplished!! 2y

‘In the snow-covered forest the beast lifts his heavy head. He kills and is unkillable. He is beautiful and horrific. He is the fear and the power, the envy and the magic and the desire. And he has come home to claim his place at last...‘

This is my third time reading this and it is my absolute favorite werewolf novel. The beautiful imagery Lee‘s writing invokes is amazing. This is a dark fairytale with a little blend of horror.

The Year's Best Fantasy Stories | Lin Carter, Arthur W. Saha

(1976) Second of an annual "best fantasy" series. Like the first, it's heavy with the kind of fantasy that would have fit right in at Weird Tales. Which is fine, but sometimes it feels like an album of new covers of old hits instead of giving a hint about where the field is going. Also the editor includes two of his own works, just in case you were wondering about his opinion of himself. That said, there are some good stories here.

Disappointing. We have Lee's terrific prose and imagery, but the plot is an unmemorable Chosen One fantasy with a disturbing amount of sexual violence. Lee is a very good writer but don't start here.
