James Baldwin thought of himself as a poet first, not a novelist, not an essayist. He filled sheets of paper with poems and then later fleshed them out into stories or longer compositions.👇🏽

Nute So last night I started our reacquaintance here, Jimmy‘s Blues, with his poetic voice that strays from the usual rhythmical beats and metaphorical tendencies, instead syncopating with jazz inflections and shifting structure of stanzas, displaying an unrestrained freedom to tell the bitter truth and nature of this world in the ways that he chooses. He‘s blunt, but with requirement for a lesson was needed THEN and, sadly, NOW!
