I liked this. Although I am not 100% certain that everyone in the vignettes was a card carrying sociopath. Stout does identify a few earmark characteristics that appear to be on the radar of many sociopaths. In all this was a very good read and her attempt to define and discuss conscience was very informative. A few psychologists have deemed the book to be pop culture alarmism and I can see why, however Stout has some very good points.

In the saga of my ADD being weird, I asked my wife if she could reach the library books from where she was already getting something. When asked why I said "Because, I Don't Want to Kill You..." before getting distracted.

She was like "uhh... Good but... What?"

While I actually read 90% of book 2 on my stack of research into psychopathy, I‘m bailing on this one at 50%. In many ways it‘s the most compelling of the 3 books I chose. It‘s a memoir written by a woman who diagnosed herself and was later clinically assessed as a nonviolent non criminal sociopath, describing her experiences and internal motivations.⬇️⬇️⬇️

This is probably the standard introductory tome for the layperson to begin to understand psychopathology. They live among us, a solid percentage of the world population exists without a functioning ability to feel empathy. Not just hustlers and criminals, but politicians, CEOs and other successful people who pretend to be ‘normal‘. Good advice for how to avoid psychopaths and disentangle them from your life.

I suppose I liked this more than most. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Learned some interesting facts about sociopaths. Various studies and statistics throughout the book mixed with case study type stories. Sometimes the person being featured was the sociopath and Stout would deconstruct their behavior/choices. Other times it was a victim of a sociopath who Stout counseled. Either way, the stories of how the sociopaths see the world were my favorite part of this book.

Ready for this gem (I just saw that it‘s autographed!). I‘m betting there are lots of word search finds in here too - yay!! 😃 If the title seems familiar, its probably because you‘ve seen that quote in my dating profile.
