#Readaway2024 #FabulousFebruary #20in4 #readathon #HyggeHourReadathon

Spent my #Naturalitsy #HyggeHour reading this novella, a Sleeping Beauty in reverse story where the heroine, Toadling is a human princess but because she was stolen away & replaced with a changeling & raised in the waters of faerieland, she has magic & can change into a toad.🐸 It‘s a quick & sweet read & I enjoyed it.

Accompanying my reading is a pineapple juice bar ⬇️

DebinHawaii … because pineapple juice has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe an irritated or sore throat & bromelain in it can help break down mucus and reduce congestion and inflammation. (Yep, feeling somewhat better but still not 100%) 🤧These whole fruit bars are more fun than drinking the juice. Heading off to bed as it‘s going to be a long & busy work week. 😬 (edited) 1mo

Zinnia Gray is terminally ill and just turned 21 when she finds herself in the castle of a real Sleeping Beauty. The story is one part The Fault in our Stars and one part Gaiman's The Sleeper and the Spindle. I loved the author's other books, but by its very nature this slip of a novel doesn‘t give the reader enough time to feel too attached.

Let‘s turn the tale of Sleeping Beauty on its head!
With a main character (who can turn into a toad) and her mild magic and a kind knight wondering what the thornhedge is hiding, see why the story isn‘t what you always thought—learn why Toadling the changeling is protecting the world FROM the sleeping girl in the tower…
And yes, @rubyslippersreads - you would like this!
For anyone who likes a fairy tale retelling, this novella is a treat. 🐸

LiteraryinLawrence Oooh, cool premise! 1mo

Zinnia is destined to die before she turns 22 due to a rare illness, then she wakes up in a tower room of a fantasy realm just as a princess is about to prick her finger with a spindle.
Zinnia goes on a quest to save herself and other Sleeping Beauties across the multiverse.
Quick read but packed full of action, detail, and depth.

Somehow I never got around to actually reading this one before even though I knew it was one I‘d love, and it didn‘t disappoint. Although it‘s written almost as an illustrated short story, and that‘s not my favorite length for Gaiman‘s writing. I find his work more compelling when he either takes the space to flesh it out even more, or keeps it startlingly brief.

KathyWheeler I liked this one. Have you read Snow, Glass, Apples — his graphic novel retelling of Snow White? 2mo

The story lacked any depth and it was a struggle to get through.

Rebecca grows up listening to her grandmother's retelling of Briar Rose. And on her deathbed, she claims that she *is* Briar Rose. Rebecca then travels to Poland to discover the truth behind her beloved grandmother's fairy tale. Yolen skillfully weaves together Sleeping Beauty with the history of the Holocaust. It's a bold take and shows why fairy tales continue to help us make meaning out of our experiences.
