The August 4, 2025 issue of The New Yorker arrived today. I love the cover featuring the steps of the MET. Below are 3 previous issues: 1955, 1977, 2007 whose covers featured the MET. Just “for fun” post. I feel blessed that we are but a train ride away from this museum, with all it‘s beauty for us to peruse.

Lesliereadsalot Great cover! I had a New Yorker subscription for so many years and I still love their covers. 4mo

Finally made it into the city to see the Kusama exhibition - I‘d heard that it was magnificent and always crowded so we bought tickets online and arrived before the gallery opened to join the queue - which meant we were able to walk straight in AND we loved it all! This was my favourite room but they were all glorious!

Even my beloved water window has had a Kusama makeover.

Pickpick

This is somehow the early 2000s version of „Fie Königin“ by Sebastian Conrad, which came out last year. Tyldesley examines the story of Nofretete (Nefertiti) be becoming icon throughout the 19th century, whilst Conrad throws light on her influence in the modern day mass media as well.

As archaeologists and anthropologists we are arch-appropriators of material cultures. The objects we collect from ethnographic contexts, the artefacts we find in the earth, are no longer a part of the material culture to which they once belonged. From the moment of collection or discovery they become part of our material culture, our systems of cultural significance.
