Mehso-so

Eh, I hate to say this because I usually love Jami, but I didn‘t feel anything reading this. I just wasn‘t moved to care, love or hate, when the big reveals were made.

I love All Grown Up. I‘ve read it four times. Every time I cry. Without fail. This book didn‘t even come close to that one.

If I have to choose a #ToB #richpeopleproblems book, it‘s easily Fleishman Is in Trouble. Sorry 😐 2.5⭐️

Prairiegirl_reading Disappointing to hear!!! 4y
Christine I‘m with you on this one. I enjoyed All Grown Up (and Saint Mazie) so much more. 4y
Megabooks @Prairiegirl_reading Yeah, I was very disappointed. 4y

Megabooks @Christine I liked AGU and The Middlesteins more. I haven‘t read Saint Mazie, but I own it. 4y
BarbaraBB Oh that‘s too bad, I had been looking forward to it since @Cinfhen wrote about it. I wasn‘t too much of a fan though of All Grown Up so my expectations aren‘t too high! 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB They‘re very different books, so you may like this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wanted to love this book, but when it came down to the end...apathy. 4y
Cinfhen Interesting! AGU ( which I loved) is more of a universal theme and this book might be less appealing to a wider audience. For some reason, the story got under my skin but I could see how the style would leave some feeling detached. Now I‘m more excited for Fleishman but I think you‘re right, Meg. These books probably cancel out each other. I still think you‘re gonna like this one @BarbaraBB 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I don‘t know why this didn‘t get to me. Normally I like family drama stories. In fact, I‘d say that‘s a usual go-to. The magic just wasn‘t there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
Cinfhen I still don‘t get one bit and it‘s bugging me. What was the point/connection to the black man who had a stroke and couldn‘t reach his daughter 🤷🏼‍♀️ a sort of opposite experience of Victor‘s family ??? I thought that storyline might be interconnected but it just fizzled. 4y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yeah, idk what was going on with that. I didn‘t even get why there were those chapters about the coroner and her boyfriend. All that just so his family could dump him in a pauper‘s grave?? 4y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks @Cinfhen I just finished Fleishman and now really want to read this one. As I wrote in my review I ended up being really annoyed by the storyline, even though I liked the book a lot! #richpeoplesproblems 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Just wrote you back a lengthy reply! Managed to keep it to two tags! 😂 4y
BkClubCare Hmmm oh well! I will keep open mind. It will be my first one by this author and my first of the short list 4y
Megabooks @BkClubCare I hope you like it. I‘ve liked her other two I‘ve read, but just not this one. 4y
sueemmy Totally agee with you. I could not connect with any of the characters 4y
Megabooks @sueemmy yeah, it was just very disconnected/mediocre for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y

Pickpick

I‘m surprised to see such negative reviews on GoodReads. I wonder if because I listened on audio I had a different reaction to this book. I was deeply connected to the story and found myself simultaneously sympathizing & judging many of the characters. JA writes so effortlessly & her sense of place is felt so vividly. This story of family secrets slowly unravels, each secret juicer than the next. And traveling to NOLA was just an added bonus. 4🌟

KarenUK I‘m really looking forward to this.... waiting on my library hold... 4y
BarbaraBB Sounds right up my alley! 4y
Cinfhen I predict you both will REALLY like this one @KarenUK @BarbaraBB even though the characters are NOT LIKABLE 4y

Cinfhen Hehehe, I know that @BarbaraBB and @KarenUK likes books with #RichPeoplesProblems 👍🏻👍🏻 4y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Me too! That‘s why Fleishman is so good 😊 @KarenUK 4y
Megabooks You know, I like fictional rich people problems, and I loved Fleishman and I‘m loving this book, but as soon as it‘s nonfictional rich people, I think oh Lord, get over yourself!! 😂😂 4y
Suet624 I‘m so glad you liked it. I was surprised by the negative reviews too. 4y
Cinfhen One review simply wrote “This book is very white.” And gave it 2 stars @Suet624 🙄 4y
Cinfhen I‘m very excited for Fleishman @Megabooks @BarbaraBB @KarenUK that one seems right in my wheelhouse 4y
Suet624 @Cinfhen Oh for heaven‘s sake! 4y
Cinfhen Right ?!? @Suet624 4y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Agree completely!! I only like them as caricatures 😉 4y
LauraBeth @KarenUK this is a Kindle Daily Deal today! 4y
CarolynM Only available in hardback here, apparently. Won't be on kindle until March. I've stacked it. 4y
KarenUK @LauraBeth Thank you! Done! 😍💸 4y
Crazeedi I'm stacking this, havent read this author yet! Thanks for the review!! 4y
Cinfhen I‘ll be curious to hear your thoughts @Crazeedi it seems to be a polarizing book 😛 4y
