On a Summer Night | Gabriel D. Vidrine

I wish it was easier to find books like this when I was a Tween/Teen.

This is a great short book about a 14 yr old trans boy‘s first summer camp experience. He attends the camp in VA that his best friend, an asexual girl, has been attending for years.

This is a great addition to any YA library, with a different point of view than most. I liked it.

Next up! I had this on pre order forEVER! SO happy it‘s finally here, I think, based on everything I‘ve read, that it‘s going to be an important addition to our queer cannon. #bookishpride, #queerbooks, #queerya

An enjoyable, solid #QueerYA. Monty is an irresponsible, vain, bisexual rake on his 18th century tour of the Continent. Along for the journey are his smart sister and his sweet BFF (also queer, and Black). They find themselves embroiled in a fantastical adventure including alchemy, thievery, and pirates. Monty is a difficult character to sympathize w/ at times and I didn't feel quite as emotionally invested in the characters as I would have liked.

Crinoline_Laphroaig Monty he's such ass sometimes but couldn't help but love him. Percy 😍 6mo

Got these three review copies in the mail today! I like how they are in various stages of readiness. One (the tagged book), is the regular copy. Meredith Russo's new #trans #YA book is an ARC but has a cover image and is out in May this year. Mackenzi Lee's upcoming #QueerYA is very bare bones still and coming out in January 2020. #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks #TransBooks

HeatherBookNerd I didn‘t realize Meredith Russo had a new book coming. Yea! 7mo
BookHoarder32 Ooo can't wait for Mackenzi Lee's new one! (edited) 7mo

This is my latest article for the website Autostraddle. It's a list of 68 (!!) upcoming 2019 queer YA books! From fantasy set in the Buffyverse to a graphic novel that re-imagines Little Women and everything in between. Check out the full list in the link in the comment below!

This was an unexpectedly beautiful love story set in a rich fantasy world. This did not go in the direction I was predicting. Small spoiler alert: The girl does not fall in love with her captor! The evil king does not have a heart of gold hidden under a tough exterior. This was such a refreshing story to read.
This story is about finding yourself, finding happiness and fighting for that happiness. #queer #queerYA

Dragon Sounds intriguing, stacking! 👍🐉 9mo

Well this was just delightful and adorable. An aspiring fashion designer Frances is hired by a prince named Sebastian to be a royal seamstress, but all is not what it seems. The prince, it turns out, sometimes also feels like a princess and wants Frances to design scandalous and inventive dresses. The 2 teens discover who they are and fall in love along the way. Also: any story about parents accepting their queer kid makes me teary. Loved it!

If this book's prose is rarely anything but perfunctory and the characterization is on the weak side, the emotional force of its narrative and the importance of its themes make up for it. It's about a 17-year-old Bengali American lesbian with conservative Muslim parents who gets accidentally outed. The ensuing journey, while sometimes melodramatic, addresses the ideas of the danger of coming out culture and the assumption that queerness is white.

Dreadnought | April Daniels

So wonderful! What a great concept thoughtfully executed, and to great entertainment value! Danny is a closeted trans girl when the superhero Dreadnought dies in front of her, passing on his powers. Her body is instantly brought to its ideal form: not only does she now have superpowers, her body matches her gender. What follows is action-packed supervillain fighting but also tough & real stuff about a teen facing transphobia. Highly recommended!

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Also, I LOVED Danny's superhero mentor Doc Impossible, who I will be proposing to shortly. #QueerYA #TransBooks #QueerBooks 14mo
