Pickpick

I absolutely LOVE finding historical fiction based on people of history that I knew nothing about before. This was fascinating! It‘s a heartbreaking beginning for our heroine, however she fought to maintain her place in the strange world she was thrown into and did her best to live the life she wanted and deserved. The narrator was great and the story beautifully written. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Suzze I read her book, Wild Women and the Blues a couple of years ago and loved it. I just got this one recently, and need to read it soon. ❤️ 3w
candc320 Oh, I need to read that one! Thanks for the recommendation @Suzze ! 3w

Very very good book. Needs to be known it‘s for high high young adult readers. While there aren‘t any trigger warnings that need to be prefaced it‘s definitely on the cusp. Very heavy, very sad and then you celebrate the last 30 pages. Love the glimpse inside the palace also!

“My mother belongs to Africa. England was part of her story, but who she became was despite England. I want Africa to know her best.”
—Victoria Matilda Davies Randle, daughter of Princess Aina of the Egbado in Okeadon, aka: Princess Sarah Forbes Bonetta Davies, Goddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. (I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway hence its “uncorrected proof” status. It‘s due to be published soon.)

The #victoriadayreadathon hosted by @melissajayne is just what's needed to fill out the upcoming long weekend! For once, we're not travelling anywhere, so I'm looking forward to a relaxing few days with lots of reading.

The Aurora Award nominees (for Canadian sci-fi and fantasy) have just been announced and I'll be reading from that list: https://www.tor.com/2023/05/15/heres-the-2023-aurora-award-ballot/

I am hosting a Victoria Day Weekend readathon this Friday through Sunday. For those outside of Canada, some of may be wondering what is the Victoria Day weekend. To sum it up, its the unofficial start of summer here in Canada. For a more broad definition of Victoria Day, you can go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Day⤵️

melissajayne This will be a low key readathon, in that you can read as much or as little as you want. It just matters that you read. I hope you can join in. I do realize that this is extremely short notice, as many Canadians may already have plans. #victoriadayreadathon (edited) 10mo
kwmg40 I'll join in! The Aurora Awards (for Canadian science-fiction and fantasy) just announced this year's nominees, so I'll be reading from that list. 10mo

I loved her book about Jane Austen - hoping this one is just as good!
