Yesterday was a day-long advanced screening of November, so I made apricot jam because it tastes like sunshine in a jar.

Recipe is from the tagged book. It's great in that it calls for old-fashioned dried apricots, rather than wildly expensive fresh ones.

Soubhiville Oh yum! Now I want some, lol. 8mo

Current read - because the onslaught of cucumbers and summer squash is about to begin. 🥒🥒 🥒

Anyone have other picklin/fermenting/canning favorites?

Tamra I believe my surprising favorite is pickled curried cauliflower - I think it‘s from the New Ball Canning book. Yum! Tart & Spicy 9mo
Aimeesue @Tamra Thanks! I‘ll have to look for a similar cauliflower recipe. Or borrow the book from the library - I have a Ball canning book, but not that one and it‘s not in the one I have! 9mo

Tamra @Aimeesue when I get back from our trip I‘ll see if I can remember to let you know! 😊 9mo
Blueberry I canned mushrooms, broth, and chocolate Cherry Jam this week. 9mo
Aimeesue @Blueberry Mmmmmmmmm! Was that a vegetable broth, or do you use a pressure canner? Thinking of investing in one as I‘d like to be able to make giant batches of soup, beans, etc and can them. My mother just cans them in a water bath, but I‘d rather jump right to Making Sure My Food Is Safe spot, as I can forget what I have left in the pantry sometimes.😁 9mo
Blueberry It was vegetable broth made from the mushroom boiling water. I pressure canned it. I have a Presto canner. I think it's a very good one at a not horrible price. 😄 9mo
Aimeesue @Blueberry I am definitely putting a pressure canner on my holiday list this year! 9mo

Loving this new book - there a whole section on small batch pickles which if fabulous if you don‘t need 17 jars of dilled cucumber relish!

julesG I think that just sold it to me. I hate having to scale down recipes to ingredient amounts that would require high tech to the nanogramm tuned laboratory scales. 9mo
Mitch @julesG Agreed! Theres's a whole section here on really small batches - perfect! 9mo

While this slim book contains a lot of useful information (though not enough recipes), the cover is the most hideous I‘ve seen in a long time. Published in 2010, it looks 70s vintage. I know things come and go, but I hope this color is forgotten except by nature. 🤢

Tamra My parents had a house (briefly thank the gods) in the 70s which prominently featured avocado green. Carpet, appliances, linoleum, wall phone....... (edited) 4y

New in the mail! I‘ve done little to no fun reading because I‘ve been obsessed with canning and getting some summer chores done. So far I‘ve done two types of jam and two pickles. Still waiting on results. I had a bean failure for my first pressure canning venture, but that is how we learn. 🥴 Definitely is an acquired skill.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude and drooling right now. I genuinely cried tears of joy when I opened the package from @MicheleinPhilly this morning. SHE SENT ME A CASE OF PICKLES. I‘ve never felt so honored or seen by a gift in my entire life. Thank you, Michele (& Pickles)! ♥️This is the absolute best! 🤩😭😋🤰

Also, they happen to be excellent quality specialty pickles and extremely tasty! Now I just need to pick up some ice cream to go with...

Cinfhen Hahaha 😂 That‘s fabulous!!! @MicheleinPhilly is THE BEST 😁 4y
saresmoore @Cinfhen Isn‘t she? My husband walked in to find me crying and said, “What‘s wrong?!” I said, “Michele from Litsy sent me a case of fancy pickles and I‘m just so happy!” 4y
MicheleinPhilly I told you I was going to send you pickles! Enjoy doll, you deserve them! Just don‘t eat them all at once. 😉😘 4y

rubyslippersreads These look absolutely scrumptious! As they say in the #BetsyTacy books, @MicheleinPhilly is a perfect peach. (Or maybe in this case, a perfect pickle. 😄) 4y
saresmoore @MicheleinPhilly You really are the best. ♥️🥰😘 The Pint Pickles are amazing, by the way. And bonus that they‘re “too spicy” for the girls—more for me and squishy fetus! 4y
saresmoore @rubyslippersreads Or maybe a pickled peach?! Too weird? 😄 4y
MicheleinPhilly A year or so ago we met representatives from that company in our local bottle shop. I had Pickles with me so they took a picture of her and a jar of pickles and posted it on their Instagram page. I love ALL of their stuff and I'm not even pregnant! 😁 4y
TrishB Ah that‘s so cool 👍🏻 4y
Suet624 That‘s fabulous! 4y
Cinfhen @saresmoore I SO understand!!! Tears of gratitude, love and friendship 😘#LittensAreTheBest 4y

Never thought I‘d have a bag of salted pig intestines in my vegetarian-household fridge. There‘s a first for everything. (And I love my sausage-making nephew.)

marleed Oh my gosh. Is the finished product called chitlins? I mistakenly bought some once and attempted to cook them in a crock pot. I‘m not sure if I‘ve ever created a worse smell in my life. I‘m still teased about it all these years later. Pig intestines, crock pot - no! 4y
SW-T @marleed Salted are for sausage making, not chitlins, though they both start with pig intestines. 4y
Lindy @marleed as @sw-t said, these are for sausage-making. They are large casings for making garlic sausage rings. 4y

marleed @SW-T @Lindy ohhh, salt makes a difference. My experience was so funny. I ended up putting the crockpot outside hoping I could cook the smell away. My husband (RIP) then fed them to the raccoons. Did I mention I am a terrible cook - it was not the last time raccoons finished off my culinary attempts! 4y
Lindy @marleed 😂 4y
Hooked_on_books I was hoping that bag wasn‘t what I thought it was, but it‘s what I thought it was. 🤢 I did once see an Inuit garment made of seal intestine so as to be waterproof. That was pretty interesting. (edited) 4y
Cathythoughts Oh no 🤦‍♀️... when I see these in the market I have to look away ... 😳🤣 4y
AlaMich I was thinking,”wow, that‘s a big bag of fresh noodles” and then I started reading... 4y
Lindy @AlaMich 🍜😂😂😂 4y
Lindy @Cathythoughts I‘ve never seen them before. They look skinny but my nephew says they will accommodate a two inch diameter sausage. 4y
Lindy @Hooked_on_books Wow! What ingenuity! 4y
