@Cinfhen

Cinfhen I agree, Owen Meaney deserves a place on every decade list!!!! Thanks for sharing and tagging me. I still haven‘t read and I‘ve owned it forever 3d
BarbaraBB Me too, @Cinfhen I‘ve had it since @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks started raving about it. Now it‘s on your list of the decade @Chab256 I really want to read it in 2020! (It does fit the challenges 😉)! (edited) 3d
Scochrane26 I always mean to read Owen meany and never get around to it. 3d

Chab256 @BarbaraBB @Scochrane26 @cinfhen I might join a buddy read! Owen Meany is one of my all time favorites!! 2d
BarbaraBB @Chab256 I Think @Cinfhen is referring to Tell the Wolves I‘m home? At least I was 😉. I have read Owen Meany already. But I would like to buddyread the Wolves! 2d
Scochrane26 @Cinfhen @Chab256 I would do a buddy read. It‘s on my kindle. Just not in January. 2d
Cinfhen I was referring to Wolves @BarbaraBB @Scochrane26 and if you‘d like to join that would be great!!! 2d
Cinfhen And you too @Chab256 if you‘d like to reread Wolves!?!? 2d
Chab256 @Cinfhen @Barbara Ohhhh, lol. I see that now. 😂Yea, I would be up for a re-read of Wolves too! 2d
Cinfhen Ok, great @Chab256 I‘ll let you know when @BarbaraBB and I decide to read 2d

rachelm If I could sneak an extra four in there I would add all of Ferrante‘s Neapolitan novels… 4d

I really love the unique format of these two books and I hope the author will be inspired to do more similar some day.

The Painted Drum: A Novel | Louise Erdrich
Mehso-so

While the writing in this book is beautiful & evocative at times, and a couple of the characters were well drawn, for some reason I just couldn‘t get into the story or care much about it. There was something about the overall writing style that just didn‘t work for me, and the shifts in time & place & people didn‘t come together well, IMO. I wish we had stayed with Faye & Elsie the whole time, TBH. Not terrible but not a notable one for me. 2/5 ⭐️

xicanti This has been my experience with Erdrich, too. It‘s like, her prose is lovely but it just doesn‘t FLY. 2w
alisonrose @xicanti Yeah, I can‘t really put my finger on it but there‘s just something lacking 2w

Thanksgiving reading and working on finishing a reading challenge. Claiming this for a children's classic I've never read because #NewberyMedal means classic, right?

I can‘t believe I‘ve never read this book #setduringThanksgiving. I‘ll have to remedy that before I head out to my Turkey Day #celebration. And often LMA‘s characters can be #angelsandsaints. (Beth comes to mind. 😇) #movember #gratefulreads #namastenovember #multitasking 🦃🦃🦃

Happy Thanksgiving to all the #Littens—I‘m thankful for this group of kindred spirits who understand and share my obsession with books! 😊

An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving | Louisa May Alcott

Day 28 - Set in New Hampshire in the 1800s, it is a simple, yet charming story of a family Thanksgiving in an earlier, more innocent time. When their parents are called away to visit a sick relative, the girls try to put together a Thanksgiving dinner all on their own. Of course a few things go wrong, as this is the first time the children cook such a big dinner, but ultimately, all turns out well, and there‘s much to be thankful for.

OriginalCyn620 Need to read this! Stacked! 🧡 2w

I‘ve read one other book by Louise Erdrich and liked it well enough, but it wasn‘t very memorable or striking. But this sounds like it could be more up my alley. I mean, the synopsis says that it “explores the often fraught relationship between mothers and daughters” and that‘s a major buzzword (buzzphrase?) for me. #nowreading

Tamra I generally haven‘t been a huge fan, but this one is one of my favorite books! (edited) 2w

#GratefulReads Day 25 - #Bookyouhavereread

This is my favorite cover for this book, too. Did not like the movie version (Simon Birch) at all. Still makes me angry to think about it. 😠

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620

Kaila-ann I just picked up this book recently. 3w
OriginalCyn620 👍🏻📚 3w
ImperfectCJ @Kaila-ann Have you read many of Irving's other novels? He used to be my favorite author. Owen Meany wasn't the only novel of his that I re-read, but it was definitely my favorite. I haven't read it in ages, though. 3w

Kaila-ann @ImperfectCJ I don‘t think I have actually. I‘m really behind on my classics, something I plan on working on this coming year. 3w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘ve got to read this!!!!!! 3w
Scochrane26 I still haven‘t read this book, it‘s on my kindle. But, years ago, as a camp counselor, the summer staff watched the movie, then made fun of it all summer. 3w
ImperfectCJ @Scochrane26 The movie deserves to be made fun of. I don't know how they got away doing that to the novel. 3w
