⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Took me a while to get through this for various reasons, but definitely resonated with me as a single working mom.

Calling it on 2019 reading challenges. Some were more successful than others. For #mounttbr2019, I chose Pikes Peak (12 books). I exceeded that goal. Of the 12 I recorded for challenge, Neverwhere was definitely my favorite.

Well. That was deeply unsettling. Get it.😉Not for the faint hearted, the claustrophobic or the weak of stomach, especially if detailed descriptions of maggots, mutations & multiple eyeballs opening up on faces disturb you! Luke is sent down to a deep water lab in the Mariana Trench after all contact with it goes dark. What‘s waiting is far worse than the disease his brother was trying to cure. #SummersEndReadathon #HSreadathon #MountTBR2019

Loved this classic - plot, writing and characters! Jane Eyre is one of my favorite fictional characters now. Love her sassy, resilient & strong attitude.

Thank you @Robothugs this book was fantastic! Set in an arts college, there‘s everything here. Love, affection, scorn, jealousy, fury & death. The seven 4th yr theatre students are family, living & loving one another. Until the “leading man” of the group has his confidence shaken & things spiral toward a tragic conclusion. Loved it & totally recommend it. #HSreadathon #Booked2019 #BookGiftedToMe #MountTBR2019 #Bk22 #Pop19 #SetOnACollegeCampus

So it's just a fact. If a book has many scenes of people trying to survive in the wilderness during cold weather conditions, I'm going to love it. Bonus points for being set in the 1800's. 5⭐

Zelma This has been sitting on my shelf bread for too long. 5y
callielafleur @Zelma I had been sitting on it because I thought it might be a slow read, but it was really a page-turner 5y

This book was so good. Even if you're not a baseball fan, I think this story about college age kids (and a college president) might still appeal to you. I can see why it was so lauded when it came out, and I can't believe it took me so long to get to it. As it's been on my shelf for at least 5 years, this definitely counts towards my #MountTBR2019 challenge (15/36 for Mt Vancouver)!

I loved this story about a family from Bangladesh who lives in Brooklyn. It had everything- love, loss, happy times, bad times. The descriptions of Brooklyn and Bangladesh are artful, and the characters are wonderful. The culture was previously not well known to me, and I felt like I got a truthful look into the complexities of that experience. Anwar, Charu, El, Maya and all of the other characters will stay with me for a long time.

callielafleur I read the first 240 pages or so for #24in48, and also as part of the #MountTBR2019 challenge. 5y

Magic for Beginners | Kelly Link

Kelly Link is not only a gifted short story writer, she is great at putting together collections. There was only one story I didn't really enjoy, and that's probably because it was the closest to fairy tales (not my favorite genre). The rest of the stories were fab, with relatable characters who experienced crazy things (zombies and aliens and all sorts of other sci-fi craziness abounds, but in a very easy-to-swallow way).

The Street Lawyer | John Grisham, Michael Dean

Mehso-so

This was much more slow paced than I expect from a John Grisham thriller and while there's nothing wrong with that, I was hoping for more of a high-stakes, run-for-your-life type of deal.
