#scarathon photo challenge: pumpkin. Stumpkin has become our favorite Halloween book to read every year. My daughter insists every year to find & buy our own Stumpkin. The pumpkin on the left was her Stumpkin for this year (6 points). #BatBrigade

4 🌟This was a fun things online book about pumpkin picking and pumpkin carving. In particular the illustrations are beautiful to look at. This would be fun not just at bedtime, not just at Halloween, but at story time all through the year.

Adorable book with awesome artwork! 🎃📖 #scarathlon #scarathlon2021 #teamslaughter @Clwojick

Tera66 Would this be good for a 5 yr old? Or too spooky? 3y
Charityann @Tera66 I don‘t think it would be too spooky. It‘s just carved pumpkins - one looks like a witch which is probably the scariest looking one. The text isn‘t spooky at all. (edited) 3y
Tera66 @Charityann Awesome! Thank you! 3y

Not sure if this is a board book or not, but it feels like a board book. It shows what pumpkins can and do become on Halloween. This book is a bit darker, which is noticeable from the cover. Not anything meant to scare, but it appeals to the horror loving parents and isn‘t all cute and chibi style. It‘s dark, decadently so.

Technical Question: I know Media Mail is *only* supposed to be books...but can you wrap them? What if it‘s just paper & no ribbon?

Lovesbooks87 I think I have wrapped books and sent them through media mail. The only thing is don‘t write anything on the wrapping. I once sent books to someone and wrote trigger warnings on sticky notes just as a heads up and they were going to charge the person for 1st class mail. 4y
sprainedbrain I agree with @Lovesbooks87 as long as it‘s just the paper with no cards, notes, ribbons, bows, bells or whistles, you should be ok! 4y

acast What is media mail? 4y
monalyisha @acast It‘s a way to mail certain items, including books, that‘s a lot cheaper than regular mail. It does take longer, though. Allow at least 10 days for shipping. I‘m thinking about sending just the books for my swap pkgs this way. 4y
Sharpeipup Media mail is supposed to be books only. Paper wrapping should be fine however upholding the policy varies from post office to post office. If you enclose a card, put it in the book otherwise they can charge you extra for that. 4y
TheAromaofBooks The rules can be enforced by different post offices differently. I've never had issues sticking a card/sticky notes in them, but I remember when @Lovesbooks87 had that issue with writing the trigger warnings (which, according to the rules I read at the time shouldn't have actually been an issue). So it kind of depends on how much of a stickler the PO wants to be. The main thing is, they have the right to open the box & check if they suspect ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) that is something other than books inside. But when I've mailed just one or two books & the package feels obviously book-like, I've never had them opened or checked by the PO. 4y
monalyisha Thanks @TheAromaofBooks! I think I‘ll stick to just wrapping paper & no notes & cross my fingers. 😉 4y
