pickCompletely lovely YA adaptation of Northanger Abbey with perfect gothic parallels and a sweetly real young love story for our two leading lads. I don't always love a graphic novel but this one captured me, and while it deals with more serious themes than the original (homophobia, racism, poverty, illness), it still feels like an A+ successor to Austen's novel. pick“Wounded” is a compelling read. It‘s a quick one too. There‘s a lot happening in 207 pages.
Northanger May is behind us and Northanger Adaptation June is ahead! I'm going for a re-watch of the 2007 film (they get it so right!), a handful of YA versions (the perfect genre for this one, can't deny it) and a book centered on the flowers and plants in Austen's work. Perfect timing as I get my own garden in gear, and who knows - maybe it'll help me learn to love a hyacinth??

Had a blast today at Queers and Quills book convention!
There is always stress about how organized things are and how good the attendees will be. But not only did a bunch of attendees give volunteers presents (goodie bags, bookmarks, candy), but everyone was just lovely 😍.
Not a big ❤️ reader I didn't know most of the authors but everyone today was so nice, and we were packed! I am excited to help out again next year!! What a success.
pickThis is such an interesting book. It starts out as memoir of Yale law professor Kenji Yoshino‘s younger days as he processed his “otherness” in American society as a Japanese-American, gay man. He talks about covering—attempting to act as white and straight as possible—then goes into related legal issues. There‘s a gentleness to his writing and some of the legalities are more important than ever in our current moment.
pickStraight men, are you okay? Straight white men, are you specifically okay? This entire book is an ode to the idea that it‘s about damned time we abandon our insistence on a binary view of life, love, sexuality, attraction, and gender.
