The Dark Horse Book of Monsters | Mike Mignola, Kurt Busiek, William Hope Hodgson, Evan Dorkin, John Reppion, Leah Moore

Mehso-so

83/150 If it wasn't for some nice artwork, this would have gotten a pan. None of the stories are scary, funny, mysterious, they seemed pointless mostly. The last story, A Dog and His Boy by Evan Dorkin & Jill Thompson, was the best of the lot. A sad tale of a dog's loyalty to a strange, dangerous boy. 2 ⭐⭐
2nd book finished for #20in4 @Andrew65

80/150 Spinning out of Mignola's excellent Hellboy series, Witchfinder is a dark gothic tale of demons, ghosts, occult powers and secret societies This would make a perfect read for Halloween. 4 😈😈😈😈

4 ⭐ I read Hellboy to fill a diesel punk prompt for a reading challenge. Hellboy is a monster, but a friendly one with a poor attitude. He is a great anti-hero. I have read newer iterations of Hellboy but going back to the original really shows off that Hellboy is not just another Merc with a mouth, or a supped-up version of Deadpool, but a sensitive, broad backed character, with unusual friends and abilities, that turn a teddy bear rock hard.

Shocktober Film # 12 was Hellboy. It's been quite some time since I've watched the earlier movies starring Ron Perlman so I can't compare, but this was campy, gory fun! I think David Harbor was good in the role and after recently binging later seasons of Hawaii Five-0 without Daniel Dae Kim, it was a delight to see him here.

Hellboy vs Ted Cruz? 2020 is officially the weirdest year ever. But if this was a pay per view event, you can bet your Right Hand of Doom I'd watch it in a heartbeat! 😈

KatieDid927 Their hateful, violent responses to his criticism really says it all. 4y
Suet624 Wow. I had no idea THIS was going on! 4y
Sace Caught that last night. Matty and Ted's dumbass Twitter adventure. 🙄 4y

Twainy Is it bad that the first thing I thought was ... huh, Ron Perlman is a freaking fantastic narrator ... City of Thieves and The Strain ... ❤️ ... 😳😢 4y

Returning to this world of boop-able snoots and a surfeit of gore, Beasts of Burden manages a fine balance with humor, emotion, and beautifully rendered art. #comics #dogsoflitsy

I was browsing Hoopla hoping to find a few comics or graphic novels that would work for my last few #LitsyAtoZ2019 reads & I found Beasts of Burden. It doesn‘t fit for J, T, U, Y unless I kinda bend the rules a bit go by the artist‘s last name instead of author‘s last name, but I really enjoyed it! I loved vol. 1 so I borrowed vol. 2 & I‘m looking forward to reading it once Minerva allows me to use the iPad! #CatwithBook #ReadingBuddy #CatsofLitsy

Sace That comic looks cute. Just added it to my Hoopla list. 4y
TK-421 @Sace The art is beautiful and a lot of it is cute & funny but I‘d say it‘s more horror than fantasy. I should warn that the threats they face do result in some animal deaths. 😢 4y
Leftcoastzen Minerva!😻😹 4y

I‘ve been a fan of Hellboy on the big screen since I first saw the 2k4 movie. Though this is my first graphic novel. The story is dark (both in art and plot line), which only adds to the story. I loved the envision of the first part of how HB came to earth. The writer does a great job between how The character actually speak, and what they think. Abe and Liz were here, but wish they were bigger. This really felt like it a setup to reintroduce HB
