Another re-telling of 'The Goose Girl'. I tend not to pick up re-tellings but I was hit by a BB for this. Oddly, I was expecting an Eastern slant, given the author's name, but it's not there. The writing is decent but, so far, the plot meanders and I don't fully get the protagonist. She actually prefers her substituted life. At the moment, 3.5 stars but I'm still reading.

I read this book as a child and I remember being absolutely awestruck by it - it is SO ENCHANTING. Through the use of magical languages, relics of an ancient past that are disregarded by most, Hale weaves a beautiful story. Protagonist Ani has the unique gift of speaking to animals which initially seems to interfere with her royalty but results in her salvation when her lady-in-waiting attempts to steal her crown. An all-time favorite.

Interesting story that reminded me of the princess and the pauper. In reverse. Dark writing. The main who stole the princesses life. Vanja is an intriguing character, but not one I could fully get behind. Yes, I understand where shes form -being forced to make bad decisions in order to survive- yet I could get around to her. Interesting curse she‘s stuck with.

I loved everything about this book. Such a great, immersive fairy tale, with amazing characters. I absolutely love the hardback of it as well. I can't wait for the next one! #Readyourtbr #readyourshelves

brittanyreads Is this a special edition, or just the regular hardback? It's stunning!! 12mo

I really enjoyed this young adult fantasy. I received it as a gift and it wasn‘t on my TBR, so I wasn‘t sure what to expect.

It‘s quite dark and definitely needs trigger warnings for sensitive readers.

A complicated story of sorcery and politics and found family, I fell for Alyrra and her good heart.

(Sietje doesn‘t realize there‘s a book behind her. She‘s being a good model for a treat. 🤍)

Wow. What a ride. It was not entirely what I expected & definitely more than I was expecting, so full of twists & turns & angst (loads of teen angst, this one isn‘t for the faint hearted) that it keeps you turning pages…relentlessly, furiously. Fascinating world, intriguing magic system, one of the most excellent, non-toxic male leads you could ever hope for, the importance of agency & consent woven into the story. I enjoyed this YA fantasy a lot.

Great fleshed-out retelling of a Grimm's Tale. I'd never read this one before, but since I had a daughter's copy, I gave it a try. Must have assumed, before, that it would be silly, but it was really a fun read, with good thoughts on inclusion, standing up for yourself, good vs. evil, etc.

Cool cover, right? Hopefully the story is equally good.

Starting a book that my oldest daughter, who is also a librarian, likes a lot. Author is from our area.
