The whole book was unpleasant. Throughout, there is the middle-grade version of Mean Girls. Then, in the last roughly twenty percent, there is the ghost story/horror aspect. I didn't find any compelling redeeming features.
I didn‘t enjoy it as much as I thought I would, but it was an interesting read. It was giving The Graveyard Book but I DNFed that one so I‘m not 100% sure, lol. A story of a kid who tries his hardest to capture monsters after his mother dies, while also trying to live a “normal” life. It‘s a story abt grief, loneliness, and homelessness. It was also giving FMA vibes (for the anime fans) except more hopeful, which, well, idk how to feel about that
I forgot to share this, but this is my next read, almost done xD tbh, I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would? It's not bad, just not what I like #netgalleybacklog #joyousjanuary
When I first saw this book, I thought it was going to be a short book filled with illustrations, a story, with a little bit of science. This is a 166 page children‘s story about secrets, death, and mountain legends. No doubt this beautiful phenomenon has inspired countless mythological tales that span the globe, over the centuries. I hope to be able to experience it one day. A cute little book for kids who are curious and love science.
I am your giant, rarely seen; I am your self made magnificent. Stand and wander at my size, my splendor. I hang and haze, float above chasms; I bestried the mountain. Caught sunlight halos my head. I am your ghost, your phantom, your spectrum. No more can you catch me than trap a cloud, snare a sunbeam, snatch a speeding swallow. Do not tremble. Fear me only as you fear yourself. I am as dark as your fears, airy as your hopes. Heavy as your
There was no escaping the mountain ghost. It was there in his mind, waiting till he was too sleepy to push it away. It filled his thoughts, huge and shadowy. The Brockenspectre followed you. Pappi had said so. Tomas felt as if it was following him, though he‘d never really seen it. You couldn‘t be sure what creatures lived up there in the snowy heights. There were legends. There were stories. Sometimes people saw strange, unexplained footprints.

Some fun and creepy short stories from Canadian writers!
Upfront I‘ll say I‘m a skeptic…I WANT to believe in ghosts and psychics, but I don‘t think I do. And this author‘s constant claims to have psychic abilities, backed up by only the flimsiest of evidence, annoyed me.
Take all that out, though, and this is a fun compilation of stories, akin to those “America‘s Most Haunted” specials on The Travel Channel (which I LOVE to binge watch during spooky season), and the perfect Halloween read.
