This book was so hard to read. Not because it's boring or badly written, but because of the topic. Fatphobia is deeply rooted in our society and keeps on destroying lives. Yes, fatphobia kills. That's why this book is so important. Read it! We all are a part of it, unless we decide to quit it. Especially the chapter about fatphobia and racism/colonialism taught me a lot.

And here's my last #BookSpinBingo board for 2025. Funny enough, my #BookSpin is the same book as my #CasttheDie choice. Nr. 20 is a Free Choice and I'll take what I can, because I'm still not sure how my reading is going to be this month.

Numbers 18 & 19 in #CasttheDie are my Free Choices, so I think I count any book I manage to read this month towards that 😅 Number 10 is this book I got from the library and plan to read soon. I'd rather read some Christmas romance, but it can't all be happy and sweet all the time, right?

@PuddleJumper

PuddleJumper Sandwich it between some Christmas romances! 4w
Jari-chan @PuddleJumper I'm so going to do that. 4w

Would love to be able to hand this book out like a pamphlet.
An incredible resource, full of both vulnerable personal experience and great research, clearly stating the troubled history, the debunking, the way forward for each myth.
I love that each chapter ends with action items and/or reflection questions. I love that Gordon is consistently thinking in nuanced terms of people representing multiple marginal identities. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? She's so clear about what's wrong with the way that people have been thinking, so comprehensive in discussing the individuals and forces that have lead to the current thinking, so unrelenting in laying out how inexcusable it is to continue with this thinking.
I'll acknowledge repeated points, but it's more about the linkages compounding the discrimination than it is about redundancies in the text.

Robotswithpersonality 3/3 Even if you've heard these points made before, chances are you haven't had them all laid out so tidly to refer back to whenever rebuttal against prejudice is required.
It's such a well collated and formatted guide, I think there really isn't a substitution for just picking it up and reading it. So many could benefit from more people doing so.
⚠️Discussion of disordered eating, anti-fatness, misogyny, racism, ableism

A damn low bar for decency, but I'm glad we're leading the pack in some ways. 🇨🇦♥️

TheKidUpstairs I gotta say, it's a surprise to see Canadian airlines leading the pack in any positive facet! 1mo

As someone who has been on the wrong side of BMI since puberty & felt that doctors often ignored my problem & focused instead on a scale number that has fluctuated within the same range for decades…I could definitely relate. This book clearly outlines how large, does not equal unhealthy & the hype-focus on size means not focusing on important things, in fact often ignoring them. Great research in this book, mixed with the author‘s experience.
