I was checking out my family tree on Ancestry (its been years since i worked on it!) and got excited when i found records for one of the ships my ancestors came to NZ on - the Roman Emperor in 1860. When i googled that i found one of the men onboard was Samuel Butler who wrote this book. So i get to read a few chapters about what the crossing was like for them! Thank you internet, youve been very helpful today ☺️

The Corsican Brothers | Alexandre Dumas

Mehso-so

Yeah, I'm a bit meh on this Dumas book. I'm reading it for Twitch for Black History Month (Canada) because it's one of his shortest works. The trouble with this book is that it's a slow burn, with 13 long chapters of build up to all the action in the last 7 chapters. It's hard to get invested in the tragedy of Lucien and Louis. My viewers are enjoying it, surprisingly enough. It's the forgotten basis for a pile of SFF stories, too.

Faranae Also, I'm deeply regretting the accent I gave Lucien for reading aloud. I was tired and what I pulled out for his apparently strong Corsican accent (not given an eye dialect, but mentioned), was some sort of unholy merging of my Francophone aunt's manner and accent, and a vaguely Italian accent. It's become extremely hard to maintain over multiple streams and I kind of hate it. Fortunately, there's a couple Librivox recordings to choose from. 😅 2mo
willaful I would never be able to get through this without incessant quoting from “Start the Revolution Without Me.“ 😂 2mo
Faranae @willaful Better than the Cheech and Chong film. 😂 2mo

1. Taking down the winter decorations and putting up Valentines Day stuff in the library. Planning displays is so much fun—it beats the heck out of grading essays! 😂
2. Tagged! Also listening to Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas.
3. Chill and funny (or so I‘m told)!

Cupcake12 Sounds like a busy week! Thanks for joining in x 2mo

1. Yes, I'm always thirsty.
2. Just finished the tagged Jack London book accompanied by hot cinnamon tea and Starbucks hot cocoa. The book was set in rugged Alaska wilderness and I needed the drinks to keep warm. 😋☕

This is light and bright Atwood. I saw some reviews express disappointment and confusion claiming this to not be up to Atwood‘s standard, but I disagree. I feel this story reflects the humorous, human, and effective writer Atwood is.
