I have been trying to read as much as I can about neurological conditions such as Alzheimer‘s and Dementia. Volunteering in Hospice, and working a for few months in home health has taught me a lot. My father and step-mom both have Alzheimer‘s, so these books are very helpful but it‘s still hard. This book discusses some history of mental illness and its institutions, and stories of loved ones who have had these diseases. It discusses the⬇️

JenniferEgnor problems with funding, visibility and compassion. It also discusses the ongoing search for a cure. The author lays out her own plans should this happen to her, as it did her mother. Unfortunately, as of now, there is no medically assisted death available for Alzheimer‘s and Dementia, given the requirements the diseases fail to meet along timelines and cognition. For me, that is what I would want; just to check out and call it a night, by any⬇️ 2mo
JenniferEgnor means within my availability. I don‘t want to exist as a shell, the real me being lost forever. If you are looking for a book about caregiving, this isn‘t it, though it is educational and worth reading. Shown: my husband and I with my father and step-mom, last weekend. She told me her grandmother was 200 years old; she gave the cat human cereal with milk in a bowl instead of her cat food; and we saw banana peels that my father placed inside⬇️ (edited) 2mo

TieDyeDude ❤ It is great that you work in home health, but it must be tough having to “bring your work home,“ for lack of a better term. I'm glad you were able to get something out of this book. 2mo

This is well written, as she‘s a good writer, but the family dynamics were challenging and I was frustrated by the, obviously normal for the time, terrible patriarchal nuclear family. Her dad sounded terrible.

I usually have at least 3 books on the go; 1 audio, 1 #sundaybuddyread and 1 random. Sometimes I have another small book on the go if my random is a chunkster. A favourite this year was Horse by Geraldine Brooks and I don‘t think I‘ve bailed on anything this year. Last book I bailed on was Let‘s Get Lost by Aldi Asaid sorry I‘m a day late

Eggs Thanks for joining in 📚🥳👍🏼 1y

My mom was given this book by a friend in 2009 when my Poppy went into hospice. She and I both read it. Written by hospice nurses, it was so helpful in understanding what my grandfather was going through in his last days. I have recommended this book often and I cannot recommend it enough.

As requested here is my Self Care Bingo Card I made. I just looked on Pinterest for ideas of what to put and tailored it to me. If this helps anyone feel free to use it. #BFC2022 @wanderinglynn

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
As previously stated, I love Jann and everything she writes. I started reading this book when I first bought it a couple of years ago, and loved it so much that I bought copies for my mom and step-mom; but I never finished it until now. Better late than never? Jann has so many insights that strike to the core of me. I recommend this especially for anyone who is caregiver to a loved one.

Joan Halifax has done amazing work with the the dying process. She has devoted her life to helping people as they die and their caregivers and family. In this wonderful book, Joan tells heartfelt stories of dying people. She engages the reader, using Buddhist teachings, to explore their own impending deaths. Joan makes talking about dying a much easier topic. She offers meditations at the end of each chapter. ☮️ #MountTBR
