Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh how I loved this book! I'm not usually in the mood for dense language, but Stevens' first-person narration hit the perfect note for me. I loved reading between the lines of what he chose to reveal. The emotional tension between Stevens and Miss Kenton, and within Stevens himself as he reflects on his life in service, is just sublime.

cherinium I just mentioned this book the other day! I was really not enjoying this book at all until the plot twist was revealed. Then, I realized what master manipulator Lehane had been. For me, the twist turned a 2-3 star book into a definite 5! This book is one of the reasons I still have so much trouble bailing on a book I'm not enjoying. I always ask myself, "what if its like Shutter Island, and the ending completely blows my mind?" ??? 6y

I can see why you might have been a little bored by this one but the plot twist really does blow your mind, right?! I‘m excited to read the book knowing the twist beforehand to see how well the beginning is crafted 🙌🏻 6y

cherinium @emilyhaldi I keep meaning to reread the book to see if my opinion of the beginning of the book changes with the knowledge of the twist, but there are many other things to read first. And on the topic of editing, I do get an option to edit when it's my own post, but whenever I click on a comment on someone else's post, I'm only given options to delete or mark as a spoiler--no edit option. 6y
