What a great #bookclub pick! This #SpookySeasonRead isn‘t too scary, but maintains a great, tense atmosphere in homage to the titular detective. And while familiarity with Hitchcock‘s films adds to the reading experience, other than a few spoiled plots, not really necessary. The plot holds surprises— though the cast isn‘t particularly sympathetic. Still, it has a cinematic flair of its own & I couldn‘t put it down! Looking forward to discussing!

Bookwomble Excellent lamp! 🖤🐦‍⬛💡🐦‍⬛🖤 3w

Had a major vertigo episode this morning, which prompted me to think of this movie.

Dizziness grips him––
fear and longing twist his heart ...
past the ledge, she falls.

JenlovesJT47 Such a great freaking movie!! Love Jimmy Stewart. Hope you‘re feeling better! ♥️♥️♥️ 4mo
lil1inblue Ooooh! 🤩 This is excellent! Love the mood it evokes. P.S. Hope the vertigo episode has cleared. Those are no fun! 4mo

dabbe @lil1inblue No, they aren't. Reminds me of a college bender ... or two. TY! 🥴😅😊 4mo
TheBookHippie Blech I hate those. 🫣😵‍💫 4mo
Mollyanna Oh no! Hope you are feeling better. Great movie 🎥 Kim Novak was phenomenal in it. 4mo
Butterfinger On one hand, I hate that you had a spell. On the other hand, shout-out to Jimmy Stewart. Funny story @JenlovesJT47 I couldn't think of a password this morning, got really frustrated, and someone yelled out, "It has to deal with Jimmy Stewart." Even Butterfinger, my username. His favorite candy bar. 4mo
JenlovesJT47 @Butterfinger oh that‘s awesome!! I‘ve been a huge Old Hollywood fan since I was 18 and he‘s always been one of my favorites. It‘s A Wonderful Life is my favorite Christmas movie by far. I haven‘t actually watched Vertigo in years but Denise has inspired me! Have you read his book of poetry? It‘s so sweet and so Jimmy lol. 4mo
CBee We all know you just had too many beverages for your birthday yesterday, Denise 😂😂😂 @dabbe (all joking aside, vertigo can kiss my grits) 4mo
Susanita I hope you‘re feeling better. 4mo
Mimi28 Happy belated birthday!! I hope you feel better soon!! I will be sending you something in a week or so I promise. If you want to write me first that would be awesome 😎 without the list I have to find all my letters. Please don‘t be mad or upset with me 🥲 4mo
Butterfinger Oh yes. It was a Christmas present one year. @JenlovesJT47 4mo
JenlovesJT47 @Butterfinger of course! Sounds like my slight obsession with William Holden and Cary Grant 😍🤓😬 4mo
Amiable Ugh! I feel your pain. Literally. I‘ve had vertigo episodes so severe I ended up in the ER. I will go to great lengths to avoid triggering an episode. Hope you are on solid ground ASAP! 4mo
AnnCrystal 🙏🏼🐝 Hope you're all better now 🙏🏼💝. 4mo
MemoirsForMe Great haiku and movie! Hope you‘re feeling better ❤️ 4mo
dabbe @Mimi28 TY! I just emailed you the last list I had. 🩵💙🩵 4mo
dabbe @TheBookHippie Vertigo or college benders? 😂 4mo
dabbe @Mollyanna TY; I am. She was phenomenal, wasn't she? 😍 4mo
dabbe @Butterfinger I had no idea that's why you had your handle! How cool is that? I adore Jimmy Stewart. And @JenlovesJT47, I saw him live on the Johnny Carson show reciting some of his poems from that very book! I must have been 7-8 years old! My favorite movie of his is ANOTHER THIN MAN; he was so good in that one! 😍 4mo
dabbe @CBee Who, me? 😌 Yeah, vertigo totally sucks. I'm doing better now, though. 😍 4mo
dabbe @Susanita TY; I am. 😍 4mo
dabbe @Amiable OMG, I can't imagine. I think we talked about this once before. It totally sucks. I just forget sometimes to move slowly. I whipped my head down to scruff it up with some hair goo, and boy, did I pay for that! I'm doing better now, though. 😍 4mo
dabbe @AnnCrystal TY; I'm doing better. 😍 4mo
dabbe @MemoirsForMe TY; I am. 😍 4mo
JenlovesJT47 Ooh yes I love the Thin Man movies! Nick & Nora are the best! And it was great seeing Jimmy go against type in that one. He‘s such an adorable yet sexy boy next door in his younger years. If you haven‘t seen it you have to watch The Shop Around The Corner around Christmastime. Such a great movie! ♥️ 4mo
Cuilin Oh vertigo sucks!! Both my parents and myself have it. Hope today is a better day. 4mo
TheBookHippie @dabbe vertigo… I loathe it. I didn‘t drink alcohol until my later grownup years. 4mo
julieclair I‘m amazed that, while suffering vertigo, you were still able to haiku about it. How??? Glad you‘re feeling more stable now. 💙 4mo
dabbe @JenlovesJT47 LOVE that one! Way better than YOU'VE GOT MAIL IMHO. That and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE = #jimmyfortheholidays 🎄 4mo
dabbe @Cuilin TY; I am doing better today. Have to remind myself to move head slowly! 😍 4mo
dabbe @TheBookHippie Boy, wish I could say the same. My college years were quite something. 🥴 4mo
dabbe @julieclair Oh, I wrote the haiku hours later, after the vertigo had settled down. 💙 4mo
TheBookHippie @dabbe helps to be poor & on your own & working three jobs and protesting & funerals 😭 I was at the clubs -I was just generally the driver 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ let‘s be real I‘m stubborn and I‘ll be damned if anything controls me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 4mo
dabbe @TheBookHippie I could have used your resolve back then. 😂 I didn't have much $$ either. That's why we usually went to a place called Dirtbags (still in business) where you could get 50-cent kamikaze shots. Need I say more? 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 4mo
JenlovesJT47 Yes I agree!! IAWL is my favorite Christmas movie! You must track down the colorized version, it is so well done. ♥️ 4mo
dabbe @JenlovesJT47 Will do! 💙 4mo
Mimi28 Thanks!! Glad you are feeling better 🩷I am sending you something Tuesday 😊🫶🏽🩷😎 4mo

Mehso-so

I was expecting more of a thriller, with maybe a dash of horror and that is not what this is. Every character is awful and I wanted a higher body count.

Finished February 2, 2025.

2-20-25: My 14th finished book of 2025! Fantastic concept but a fizzled ending. Alfred Smettle, a Hitchcock super fan, has bought a house by his old college campus, redone it, and turned it into the Hitchcock Hotel. On the 1st anniversary of its opening he invites his friends from college for a weekend of fun, and murder. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣4️⃣

I quite enjoyed this one!! Now the well-worn saga of “what do I read next??” The first book choice of the year is so important!

I started this one on Christmas Day because I was close to finishing the Fredrik Backman and I was feeling the tears were going to start pouring, so I quickly reached for this one so I wouldn‘t be breaking down in front of my family. 😚 So far it‘s been good.

I would totally stay in a Hitchcock themed hotel so I was excited for this book! I was hoping this would have been a little more creepy but mostly it was just drama between old college roommates. What made this a pick was there were a few good twists that I did not see coming. I was hoping there would have been a Norman Bates like shower scene 🔪 but no luck! 😛
