Nutshell Library | Maurice Sendak

I have worked in Libraries sine I was 19 years old, that's a few shy of 40 years. My first job was typing card catalog cards and now I'm the Dean of a University library. I've always loved the library and when I was in 2nd grade I made a library in my parents dining room that consisted of Scholastic books. I may or may not have taken great joy in charging my sister an overdue fine. #somethingforseptember #TheSpineCrackersBookclub

#bookanddrink #TheSpineCrackersBookClub I could just pick one mug there a tons in our pantry I like. The black one can be kind of a fall theme too not just Christmas. Then, I am obsessed with butterflies so I had to throw that one in too. Glaciers is a sweet book so far, filled with menories and well written ❤️😍☕️

Mimi28 Yikes, spelling errors sorry. I couldn't pick just one mug. I think I spelled memories wrong too. 8y
Mimi28 Am I supposed to say what I am drinking? Sorry I am new to this. I drink mostly bottled water and occasionally Sprite and V8 Splash. I didn't really want to take a pic of bottled water, lol 8y

Dark Corners: A Novel | Ruth Rendell

Pickpick

Quite tense story with a good psychological profile of the main character which falling down deeper and deeper with the help of a few creepy people and the whole story revolves around blackmail. Nice, but above all a quick reading.

KVanRead Good to know! 8y
Simona @KVanRead It's not shocking or scary story, but it has a solid psychological description of persons and that creates tension, just as I remember from her early works. This is her last book. 8y

Liberty Have you ever heard the story of how she became a novelist? It may be my favorite author story ever. 😂 8y
Simona @Liberty No, I never heard it, but I suspect some bizarre story. I've googled but can't find it. 8y
KVanRead @Simona glad to hear that. I've always liked her psychological thrillers best, especially the ones written as Barbara Vine. 8y
Liberty @Simona She used to work as a newspaper reporter, covering town meetings. One night, she played hooky and wrote and submitted a fake report of the meeting, because they were always the same. Except it happened to be the night the speaker died in the middle of his speech. She was caught lying and fired, so she thought it was a good time to work on a novel. 😊 8y
Simona @Liberty Lol. I work in the media (not as a journalist) and I completely understand her. 😗 8y
Simona @KVanRead I haven't read those that are written as Vine, but I understand that are, supposed to be more brutal? 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 I love her Barbara Vine books, especially Anna's Book (aka Asta's Book). My mystery group did a Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine month in January. It was great hearing about what everyone read! 8y
KVanRead @Simona I don't honestly remember them being more brutal, just more psychological novels than straight up mysteries. My favorite is 8y
KVanRead @Simona the creepiest I've read were under Ruth Rendell 8y
KVanRead @kaysreadinglife Does Asta's Book partly take place in a nursing home? I'm trying to remember if I've read it or not, lol! 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 @KVanRead No, I don't think so. Must be another one. 8y
KVanRead @kaysreadinglife ack! Okay thanks, guess they've all blended in my head😂 8y
Simona @KVanRead @kaysreadinglife Thanks for recommendations. I've added Barbara Vine in my unmanageable TBR pile. 🙂 8y
Godmotherx5 @Simona Have you read Elizabeth George? Are Ruth Rendell's books similar? Psychological thrillers interest me. 8y
Simona @Godmotherx5 Sorry, but I'm not familiar with her books.🤗 8y
Godmotherx5 @Simona No problem. My curious mind will just have to read to find out 😉 8y

Brienne of Tarth + Jamie Lannister

Most of my fav bookish friendships come from books I have already photographed a ton (Lies of Locke Lamora/Raven Boys).

But then these two spoke to me. Enemies? Friends? Reluctantly attracted to each other? It's complicated and I like it that way.

I'm always fascinating by power of will and ultra marathon runners definitely have this inside power. This is nonfiction book about runners in general, about some various marathons, but the core of the book is a Tarahumara tribe with reputation to be the best distance runners. If you interesting in tribe https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rar%C3%A1muri_people
