Joe Hill's riveting novel is about a pandemic of spontaneous combustion. This was the first Hill book I read that's not a graphic novel, & I've continued to return to his work like a moth to #theflame

Ekkross Have you read Horns? It‘s another one of his that‘s very good 6y
vivastory @Ekkross I still need to read that one 6y
Ekkross I definitely recommend it! 6y

samesfoley This is one of my favorites! :) 6y
BarbaraBB Spontaneous combustion! I just read about that in a Dickens book - the first time I heard about it! 6y
Cinfhen Awesome pick ☄️💥☄️💥☄️💥 6y
AshleyHoss820 I thoroughly enjoyed NOS4A2! I‘ll have to stack this one! 6y
vivastory @AshleyHoss820 I didn't like it quite as much as NOS4A2, but it's definitely worth checking out 6y

#theflame that ignites a fire at the beginning of this book, starts a summer of dark mystery in the life of 12 year old Riddle Camperdown. The secrets, love triangle, and murders are interspersed with a dark humor making this one of my favorite reads of 2018. #heatofjuly

emilyhaldi Went to stack it but turns out I already have! (edited) 6y
BarbaraBB I Stacked this one too, when you mentioned it before. This cover is better 😉😘 6y

I still haven‘t read (or even bought) Fahrenheit 451, but I know I really, really should! And with all #theFlame-y covers out there, I just have to pick my favourite (and get some money in the bank again) 😅

#HeatofJuly

BarbaraBB You know you should read it 😉?! 6y
batsy I haven't read it yet, either *high-five* (and having the same dilemma about which cover to go with 😆) 6y
Cinfhen 👍🏻 great choice 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 6y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB I knoooow! #somanybookssolittletime 😄😄 @batsy Yay, glad I‘m not alone! 😂 I really wanted the Folio edition (not pictured), but it has been out of print forever 👎 @Cinfhen 😘😘 6y

#theflame ignited in June's home kills all of the family members she loves. This book, told from alternating perspectives, weaves together the lives of those involved in the tragedy both directly and indirectly. I had high expectations for this book and while it didn't disappoint, I felt impatient during some chapters and didn't gain as much hope and insight as I was expecting. Cissy's story was a highlight for me 🔥
#heatofjuly

Kalalalatja Great photo! 6y
BarbaraBB I liked this book a lot, though I cannot remember what it was about anymore... except for the #flame of course! 6y
Reviewsbylola This was five stars for me. 6y

Cinfhen I had high hopes too and was surprised by some of the turns the book took. Still a pick, but only 3 🔥 🔥 🔥 6y
Mdargusch I need to read this! 6y
Mdargusch I just finished and I was so distracted by all those narrators! 6y
emilyhaldi I agree @Mdargusch it distracted from the story for me 6y

#theflame instantly made me think of the Triangle Waist Co. fire. In 1911, the worst industrial disaster ever recorded happened when the TWC caught fire. 146 garment workers lost their lives, either from the fire or from jumping to their deaths. The doors and stairwells were locked in order to keep the workers from taking breaks. 😢 #heatofjuly

Kalalalatja Oh, that sounds awful 😢😢 6y
BarbaraBB That sounds horrible! Must have been a tough read! 6y
Reviewsbylola That I don‘t know because I haven‘t actually read it yet. 😂 @BarbaraBB 6y

Reggie There is a great Moth Story with a woman who helps a young man in NYC who was curious about this story and it turns out he is autistic. And she helps him that weekend. And gets punished for it at her job. But this was back when not a lot was known about autism. She finishes her story saying that she now has an autistic child saying that maybe someone out there will show him the same kindness. But the story had a lot to do with that garment worker 6y
Reggie Fire. 6y
MallenNC I've watched an American Experience episode about that fire. How awful for those women! 6y
emilyhaldi Tragic 😣 but sounds like a fascinating read!! 6y
Hollie The lecture about the fire is what made me change from an English major to a history major! 6y
Cinfhen I went through a phase where I read a bunch of HF about this event/era and it‘s absolutely horrific yet captivating. Great choice 6y

Anne still has feelings for her old flame; troughout his absence, she has found no one who compares to him, and has pined away to the point where, at 27 years old, her ‘bloom‘ has gone. When given a second chance at happiness, Anne does not hesitate. 💑 📝

Brilliant series - would well recommend 😁

Melissa_J Can you believe, historical fiction fan that I am, that I‘ve only read one Cornwell book? 6y
TrishB @Melissa_J 😁 I love this series, Uthred is a great character! 6y
Melissa_J Is this the series that starts with 6y

TrishB @Melissa_J it is 👍🏻 6y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Nope, that‘s the Arthurian series. The first of the Uthred books is 6y
TrishB @LeahBergen 👍🏻 thanks, mixing my series now! 6y
LeahBergen I only know because I‘m my husband‘s “personal book shopper” and I‘ve bought him all the series. 😂😂 I‘ve only read about 6 of the Uthred books so far, though. 6y
TrishB @LeahBergen I‘ve read all of Uthred- I think they‘re more about the character now than any history! 6y

Pickpick

#HeatOfJuly Day 30: This Norwegian picturebook roughly translates to: Behind Mum, Moni Lives. More than despair, there is unremitting rage here that refuses to be tamed. Moni hides within Mum, and Mum is clearly scared that Moni will come anytime soon. Because Moni is way older than Mum. Moni is 100 million years old and does not speak because she has no words, just #TheFlame and black ash and smoke shooting from her mouth. https://wp.me/pDlzr-fR4

GatheringBooks the tagged book is written by English academic Janet Evans, who also served as an international research fellow at the International Youth Library in Munich. I read this book from cover to cover and was my source of genre-bending titles that I eventually borrowed from the Munich library, including this book from Norway. (edited) 6y
