I didn't care for the beginning of the story. I guess I got too wrapped up in all the poor choices being made and it depressed me. It didn't turn around and keep me interested until the last half. I think the way it was written didn't appeal to me either. I have heard a lot of good things about this author, so I will probably try another book, but this one just wasn't for me.

❤️ Another uplifting book. Loved the characters in this story. The ending was great as well. Although there was one character I was hoping would be wrapped up in a better way it made sense and overall I was happy.

Second book I‘ve read by the author with no success. He is probably just not for me, but I don‘t really think this book is worthy of it‘s place on the #1001books list. 2⭐️

BarbaraBB I am not a fan either. I can‘t even remember if I read this specific one but I did read some for the #1001books list 14mo
hilded @BarbaraBB I still have at least one left by him for the 1001 list, but I am in no hurry to get to it. Thankfully they are short 😆 14mo

Not off to a good start with my #TBR1001 book for the month, seems it will be many pages packed with fluff/morality. For those of you who have read it, worth prevailing or should I bail?

Ruthiella I‘ve only read The Alchemist and I hated it. 1y
hilded @Ruthiella That‘s the only one I have read by him before as well, and I didn‘t like it either. Just lots of banalities/self help advice portraited as fiction. Maybe this is best for teens? (edited) 1y

Quite philosophical. Honestly, I need a second read because I lost focus here and there. Bonus points for simple language and plain writing style, with the message being conveyed just the same!
I'd give it a 3/5 rating.

Ok, Francine...... stop writing books that I can't put down for hours!
Whew, this was good.

A stranger comes to the small village of Viscos. Using Miss Prym as his messenger, he makes the villagers an offer they can't refuse...or can they? This book moves quickly through the ten days as the villagers decide whether they will allow themselves to be tempted by evil. It was a fast 240 pages and I wish there would've been more turmoil shown among some of the villagers as they decide what to do. #Brazil #foodandlit @Butterfinger @texreader

These are my #foodandlit selections for January celebrating Brazil. I'll likely go through a cookbook, too, to see if there's anything I can make. I have to start the year off strong, right?!
