so-soI am a fan of the X-MEN comics from the ‘70s and ‘80s. So I missed the whole Krakoa saga when it happened. This book is about the downfall of the Mutant homeland. If you‘re up on all the lore and politics of the rise and fall of Krakoa, then you might enjoy this. I, on the other hand, can‘t get past the ‘bring dead characters back to life‘ pods. Comics are notorious for people coming back from the dead, but this is a bit much.
How often does a favorite book get turned into an OPERA? At the MET, no less?! They did a phenomenal job adapting this beautiful, tragic, sweeping story. The visual effects were especially unique. It‘s been years since I read this so I forgot how completely gutting it is, but the heightened emotionality was definitely well-suited for opera.

so-so81/100 Did I need to read yet another Thanos story where he courts Mistress Death and seeks the meaning of life? Not really, but I'm a big fan of Jim Starlin, as writer and artist, so I went in for another round. Typical Thanos, seeking power and coming with a new perspective as to what he really wants. The art was excellent, especially the more psychedelic parts, but the story was only so-so. 3.25/5 ⭐ #Read2025
so-soA grimy, noir BATMAN tale from the creators of 100 BULLETS sounds like a home run in my book. But, despite the amazing art, and the dark poetry of the narrative, I just couldn‘t muster the enthusiasm I thought this would engender. I‘m not sure why, but the book left me cold, when I should have loved it.
