Davis tells the story of a copy of the Gutenberg Bible, known as Number 45. It took me forever to figure out why this was called the “lost” Gutenberg - and no, it wasn‘t technically lost. I wasn‘t fully engaged with the narrative of this, though it is narrative nonfiction. There‘s something that just didn‘t grab me with this, and I can‘t quite put my finger on it exactly. I‘ll use this one for #SomethingWrittenByAWoman for #Nonfiction2019 .

VickieC Just started reading this tonight. I love old books so I thought this might be an interesting read. Will see how it goes. So many books and so little time leads me to stop reading if a book doesn‘t catch me in the first chapter or two. 5y

This book reminds me of a This American Life podcast that centers around InspiroBot. “The software that Peder Jørgensen and Jesper Sundnes created generates slogans that are sometimes funny but often weirdly insightful and – is this a bad word to use? – sort of profound.” There were certainly nuggets that were borderline profound, but did I need to read a book that could have been easily created by a bot? ??

Drocchio03 https://www.thisamericanlife.org/extras/why-i-love-inspirobot /// And as other readers have mentioned, it‘s basically The Secret with sass and without the odd old-timey layout. Lastly, her take on money is ... interesting. (edited) 5y

#MoreMehThanYeah If you haven‘t read this already, I wouldn‘t really recommend it.

While I appreciate Dunham‘s accomplishments, she certainly had a leg up with family and general NYC connections. There‘s nothing inherently wrong with having a privileged upbringing, but she just doesn‘t acknowledge that a lot of what she “learned” was due to that. 3⭐️

PS I do like how she stood up for women‘s health!

In 2017, at the age of 91, Jan Morris writes a daily diary of her thoughts for the first time. They range from cats to politicians, memories of army days (as James) and reporting Sir Edmund Hillary‘s climbing of Everest, to zoos, salad, sunshine, exercise and national anthems. Her nostalgia for the Great in GB can be a little uncomfortable at times, but is tempered with warmth and humour. Probably better to dip into than to read straight through.

#NonFiction2019 #SomethingWrittenByAWoman The tagged book is also my”Written by a Woman” square on my #NonFictionBingo card. I was riveted by this book, it really makes the sinking & the chaos and death after seem so real. Those men are the only ones to know what happened that night & they were, to a man, defending their captain. That it took the Navy so long to exonerate him( and they danced around the issues brought up)infuriated me so much!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This is the first I‘ve heard of this one, sounds enthralling! 5y
