I liked this one. Lil murder mystery vibes in with the sci-fi, more lighthearted than the previous 2, but good insight into Murderbot‘s mounting frustrations in Network Effect
Going to remember #serieslove2024 tag this time

TheSpineView I love this whole series! Well done!😊📚 3w

After much deliberation I decided to read in publication order instead of the chronological, this flowed really well after HOME. The 1st full length novel did not disappoint, more sass, more emotion, new friends, old friends -even if Murderbot doesn‘t want to admit they are friends.

It's wonderful how Wells continues to keep the tone and the plot development without loosing the quality of the storytelling ❤

This is a very easy read (listen) with a Murderbot aka rogue security android becoming more and more a very decent human #told_by_a_woman #serieslove2024

How sad am I that the Murderbot story arc is over! I definitely see this whole series becoming one of my major comfort reads.

rretzler I think I read somewhere that‘s she is contracted for at least 2 more Murderbot books, so something to look forward to! 1mo
monalyisha Just wanted to tell you that I‘ve had your Auld Lang Spine gift sitting on my desk for weeks now. 🙈 I didn‘t send it; you didn‘t miss it. I‘m hoping to drag my procrastinating butt to the Post Office on Monday morning! 1mo
IndoorDame @monalyisha I‘m glad I didn‘t miss it! And no worries! I often find getting to the post office one of the toughest chores to fit in so I totally understand 😁 1mo

I love being in Murderbot‘s world! I was a little thrown that this one skipped back in time, so if you‘re reading the series for the first time I might change up the order and read this as the 5th installment not the 6th.

5feet.of.fury That‘s good to know! 1mo
julesG Did I forget to warn you beforehand? I read books 5 and 6 in publication order, I had eARCs, and thought it odd that all of book 6 was set before book 5. According to Wells it's because she wanted to give Murderbot more backstory with Station Security. I'm not sure I believe this explanation. 1mo
IndoorDame @julesG that is a little odd. Usually the kind of thing an author would do after finishing a series arc, not in the middle. But…🤷🏻‍♀️ 1mo
julesG Feels a bit like money making was more important than keeping the series in order. Or, maybe it was an error they only realised too late. Or... Anyway, I think they were written in order but only published out of synch. I've re-read the series with FT before NE and it feels more natural this way. 1mo

I should‘ve had more faith in Martha Wells and trusted that I would enjoy this series just as much in novel length.

IndoorDame I‘ve been waiting for A.R.T to come back!!!!😃😃😃👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️ 1mo
Zuhkeeyah @IndoorDame I was so excited when A.R.T. came back. Their arguments with Murderbot are my favorite. 1mo

This one felt a bit more to the point and it continues the general plot of the last book.

It still feels like the author's general understanding of non-hetero relationships is minimal at best and half the time feels like a joke.

At least ART is back and I'm glad for it.

Mehso-so

This had a strong start but after a few hours, everything felt padded to oblivion. Despite having clear goals the book meanders to them. We got a bit more world-building and the characters felt a bit more fleshed out, but not enough to make a lot of them distinguishable from one another still.

There was also a bit with a pedo that felt unnecessary and out of left field and I was not a fan. Just to put it out there.

Doppoetry I generally don't care about swearing in novels, but considering how chill Murderbot was in earlier books it has gotten pretty comfortable with saying “fuck“ a lot and it isn't as effective as the author intends. 1mo
