Call the Midwife chapters are more like vignettes. Jennifer Worth included descriptions of East End, colleagues & different patients. The book provides more insight that cannot be mirrored on TV. If you have seen the BBC program, do not think it has spoiled the book for you. While BBC has made it easier to visualize the characters, the written version provides more exposure to the atmosphere and local language.

Ruri_kaichou I agree! Because it's TV, they went with a more character driven storyline, so the book definitely gave more insight. I listened to the audiobook for this and the narrator was really good 7y

mrsthilkey I did the audiobook as well and it was AMAZING. I haven't seen the show. 7y
Elisa I didn't even know there was a book! I really like the show, would love more local character! Thank you, added it to my TBR 🙂 7y
BibliophileMomma I listened to the audiobook and it was really good. 7y
SaraFair I agree. Has anyone read the sequel books? I will have to order them, I bet. 7y
Martta @SaraFair I've read the first two books of the series. They were both really good! The second one focused a lot on the workhouses and the life there. Not so much about the work of midwife. It is so heart breaking when you know that these things really happened! The third one is on my TBR list. But I highly recommed the first two as well! 7y
SaraFair @Martta -Thank you! I think that would still be good! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 The US cover is not as nice! Just checked it out on Amzn. I've never heard of this, and now I want to read it! Thank you!! 7y

The narrator for the audio version, Christina Moore, did an excellent interpretation of the emotions described in this epistolary account. The twists & turns in a teenager's life can be stressful. Being alert to their needs & actions is critical. This book proves it. #LetterG #LitsyAtoZ @BookishMarginalia #MountTBR #LitsyReadingChallenge @jessica #SetInThe1970s @EclecticReaders #Exclamation #MadLibReadingChallenge2017

Gina This book has always fascinated me. I did some research and find out and is not a memoir but a book written by I think a teacher who wanted to keep teenagers off of drugs and to show how bad they were which is why it is written by anonymous. But still a very good work on its own. 7y
Godmotherx5 @Gina I was surprised to hear the background when I learned of it. The fact that it has been banned is also amazing. 7y
