Even though interviews are definitely not my favouritw kind of text type I enjoyed the interviews with Judi Dench very much. She is a very witty person and her insight on the different characters were very interesting. I‘m going to use excerpts of this book in my English lessons for sure. 💪💪💪

This was a delight. Brendan O‘Hea and Dame Judi cover her extensive work in numerous productions of Shakespeare‘s plays. In the audio, Judi recites famous lines from memory and her reminiscences are read by Barbara Flynn. Their discussions reveal a spirited kind woman in love with her craft and the words of the man who pays the rent. I am inspired to watch Judi‘s past performances. 4.5 ⭐️

I‘m just getting around to some thank you notes and wanted to say thank you @dabbe for this lovely holiday gift. I‘ve had it on my TBR and I‘m really looking forward to reading it. I have a whole Shakespeare shelf and this will be a wonderful addition. Thank you so much not just for this perfect gift but also for your friendship. 🤗 PS the candle smells divine.

This was a rare book that I visited twice - once to read, another to listen. If you are a fan of Dame Judi Dench or Shakespeare even in the slightest, I recommend this book. Due to her failing eyesight, Dame Judi‘s participation in the audio book was kept to recitation of Shakespeare passages she knows by heart. Barbara Flynn‘s (Cracker, Return to Paradise) interpretation in the audio is superb and her voice bears a startling resemblance. 👇🏻

Ericalambbrown Dame Judi is very frank and her language is colorful, which I personally find delightful! The stories are fun and often heartfelt. I‘m so glad I found out about this book! 11mo

I didn't read as much as I'd have liked in 2024 but I'm glad that what I did read was so wonderful. More than half were new-to-me titles, and I also read a boatload of plays and books on Shakespeare - probably inspired by the tagged book, my hands-down favorite of the year. Honorable mentions to the other two pictured, Olga Ravn's fascinating non-linear fever dream and Taylor's walloping gut-punch of a novella. Cheers to a great year, Littens!

This was SO much fun, and it made me want to read or re-read and watch all the plays discussed. One disappointment: I intentionally checked out the audiobook, because I wanted to hear this in Judi Dench‘s voice. I didn‘t realize her part of the conversations was narrated by someone else (my fault—it‘s clearly marked on the cover!). That said, once I got into it, I didn‘t notice so much that it wasn‘t her, and the conversations were a delight. ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) There was a lot more literary discussion than I anticipated, which was wonderful. It was fascinating to hear Judi‘s analysis of the characters she played over the years, as well as all her stories about each production. 11mo

BarbaraJean @willaful Yeah, it was a disappointment that it wasn't her voice throughout, but honestly, listening to the bonus interview they included at the end, I could understand why they didn't just use the audio files from the interviews as the audiobook. So many little digressions and side comments! @TheBookHippie I hope you enjoy it!! 11mo
willaful @BarbaraJean That reminds me of my favorite audio movie commentary, which is by the director of the musical “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.“ He's having such a great time watching the movie, sometimes he sings along. 😂 11mo

This was such a delightful book! I have never been that curious about Shakespeare‘s plays, but hearing Judi Dench talk about her experience playing different characters was a treat.

Loved the banter between Judi and Brendan, it was very entertaining.

If you are a fan of Shakespeare, Judi Dench or if you are just curious about his work (like I was), read this!

This was a complete delight. Highly recommended if you are interested in Dame Judi, Shakespeare, theatre history, the RSC, or acting in general. I googled so many pictures and fell down so many Wiki holes, looking up people and productions she talks about.

Bookberry This sounds wonderful! I'll check it out. I'm a big fan of Dame Judi. 13mo
