Bklover @5feet.of.fury. Boy, no kidding! This Jon seems a bit more brutal than tv Jon. And poor Ygritte- “you know nothing Jon Snow” 2w
5feet.of.fury @majkia @Bklover we‘ve been through a lot this week in Westeros …but this one 💔 2w
BooksNBowls @Bklover it‘s one of my favorite lines from the show! You know nothing, Jon Snow! 2w
Roary47 💔 I hope this coming week gives us a lot less heartache. 😭😭😭 2w
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls I love her, sassy til the end! @Roary47 I hope so 😩 2w
BethM Wow just anxiety filled the whole chapter. I must say I liked tv better here, I feel like they gave her a better end. 2w

Ygritte asks him about the tower, impressed. Still under scrutiny he doesn‘t know how to get to Castle Black first
Jon knows about the pathway, asks Ygritte to come but Magnar calls on him first to kill the lone rider who came before them. Jon knows that the old man is dead anyway but he refuses saying freefolk &dont take orders. Ygritte does it
Before the men can turn on Jon they are attacked by a wolf. In the chaos Jon steals a horse &races off

5feet.of.fury Obviously there‘s so much context from the previous chapter but I was RIVETED 4w
majkia So close.... 4w

BethM So close! Ugh I hate near misses! 4w
5feet.of.fury @BethM we got some instant gratification for the cliff hanger switching from Bran‘s POV to Jon‘s right away. 4w

They reach the Wall &Jon considers his fate, will he abandon Ygritte, his duty? he wishes they could go back to the cave. The wildlings begin to scale the Wall, as the men ascend a chunk of the Wall breaks off, sending them falling but a second team makes it &drops the ladders for the rest. Jon comforts Ygritte who seems to be shaken from the climb, but she says she‘s upset they never found the Horn of Joramun to bring this cold thing down

Jon has to leave Ghost behind to go over the Wall, instructs the direwolf to go to Castle Black, hoping he understands. Jon &Ygritte have been sharing a bed, he tells himself it‘s just so she thinks he‘s forsaken his vows, but it‘s starting to not feel that way. Still under scrutiny by some wildlings he is asked about patrols at the Wall, then goes to find Ygritte in a cave. She flaunts her experience but they learn a few things together.

Bklover That was fun! 1mo
5feet.of.fury @Bklover I loved this chapter. I love them. GRRM really nailed the essence of being young and having that new relationship for Jon in this chapter. It‘s so pretty! 1mo
BethM I just love Ygritte so much! 1mo
Roary47 Jon deserves someone special. 💛 1mo

Tormund asks why Jon refuses Ygritte‘s quite obvious flirtations. In his head, he recalls the vow, but he says he‘s too young to wed, he doesn‘t want to dishonor her or have a bastard child. The free folk don‘t care. He thinks of what he might have to do as the free folk approach the Wall. Jon is called by Mance to The Fist. The camp was attacked, the Watch dead or fled. Mance knows there were more crows than Jon said, but Ygritte sticks up for him

BooksNBowls Haha I‘m guessing they did “the deed” then 😅 and I love Tormund, but was he talking about raping those women?! 😳 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls ugh I might have glazed right over it, was he talking about sex with bears too? 🫣 2mo

BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury yes! I‘m listening to the audiobook and I was like wait.. what now?? I thought I misheard 😅😅 2mo
Sargar114 I might have missed that too…I thought it was a woman in a bear pelt that liked rough sex…but I‘m also doing the audio and was doing dishes while listening…so might‘ve misheard also. Tormund is a hoot, especially in the show so I‘ll hold on to that. Ygrette is pretty great. (edited) 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Sargar114 I love Ygritte. I‘ll go with your interpretation of Tormund‘s tales too. 😂 2mo
BethM He definitely said he slept with a bear😂 I love Ygritte. So fiery. 2mo
Bklover Finally getting caught up! And I agree @BethM - Ygritte is the best!! 2mo
Roary47 In this chapter I like the difference between Robb and Jon. Jon is thinking about the consequences and Robb definitely did not. I‘m further than this but I noticed that in the next Tyrion chapter. 1mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 I agree, part of it is Jon‘s experience he said he would never have a bastard. He managed to ignore his hormones better than Robb so far 😂 1mo

Jon is riding with the wildlings. They take him to Mance. Mance knows who Jon is despite that they‘ve just arrived. Jon meets The King beyond the Wall &his court. Mance confides that he met Jon twice before; when he was a brother of the Watch &Jon was a child, & again when Ned became Hand. Mance crossed the Wall alone with his lute, spied on Robert& sat a the feast. Much inspired by Bael the Bard. Jon convinces Mance he has no ill intentions.

BethM Ballsy move by Mance showing up at the feast. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM indeed, referencing hospitality laws.. would have been enough for Ned, he was a ruler follower …but Robert & Jaime there? Riskyyy 2mo

Bklover @BethM Also, the time with the snow when Jon was a boy seemed strange! 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM @Bklover I was disappointed when he told the stories, I was hoping he knew Jon because Benjen was there and told him…. 2mo
Bklover Yes— I was surprised Jon didn‘t react to the mention of Benjen 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Bklover I know! he‘s been looking for Benjen for so long! 2mo
Roary47 I was also hoping more on the Benjen front. 2mo
BooksNBowls Hello, hi I‘m here and participating just haven‘t been on in like a week. 🫣👀 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls Hiiiii! Whatcha think so far? 2mo
Sargar114 Also: We meet Tormund! Some great characters in these chapters. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Sargar114 ❤️ Tormund was one of my faves from the show! 2mo
BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury I‘m about to go back and add my thoughts! I wrote them in my journal lol I‘m loving it so far though! I‘m loving that we‘re getting new character POVs and seems like it‘s finally diverging from the show storyline. 2mo

Since hiding is futile, they‘ve decided to make a fire. Stonesnake is sent on the arduous trek back to the Fist to tell of Jon‘s vision. Qhorin tells Jon that if they are caught by wildlings, Jon is to yield & join them…. & spy. After a night, they are approached. Jon yields, Ygritte vouches for him, but the others make him prove it by opposing Qhorin.

Mance is already marching on the Wall.

majkia I went ahead and read the last chapter. Whew. Looking forward to A Storm of Swords. 3mo
Roary47 @majkia I finished a while ago, but agree! Timeline is it starts Wednesday? 3mo

5feet.of.fury @Roary47 @majkia 1/22 for ⚔️Storm of Swords 🗡️ I left a buffer zone in case anyone needs to catch up (or take a little break) but I think I‘m one of the very few NOT finished 😂 3mo
Bklover I‘m not finished either! I can‘t wait for Storm of Swords. Oh, and poor Jon. 3mo
BethM Im not finished either! And I agree with @Bklover what a horrible time for Jon 3mo
Doppoetry What a shame about Qhorin. Rest in power ✌️ ☮️ he was so cool and definitely one of my favorites. 3mo

Qhorin guesses easily that Jon let Ygritte go.
Jon dreams of direwolves, of the weirwood, &his brother with 3 eyes. A vision of an ice river, giants, beasts, an army of thousands. Ghost is attacked by an eagle.
He tries to dismiss it as just a dream, but Qhorin makes him tell it.
They walk on & find Ghost, attacked as Jon had said, but alive. Qhorin has them head back, knowing that the eagle has seen them. &Leaves Dalbridge to hold off wildlings.

Bklover Poor Dalbridge! Also, I didn‘t remember Jon having that dream/vision- so who is the eagle? 🦅 3mo
BethM @Bklover I‘m really seeing subtle divergences from the show now. He‘s not a warg in the show. I assume the eagle is some form of scout for the wildlings. Actually in the show later on there is a wildling that is a warg to an eagle now that I think about it. 3mo
BethM Loved the way they took care of Ghost, and Dalbridge‘s courage. 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM @Bklover I wasn‘t sure if it would be a wildling or a White Walker controlling it, but wildling makes sense with what he saw. 3mo

Jon & Stonesnake separate from the other rangers & hike a perilous trail after a camp of wildlings. There were only supposed to be 2, but there‘s an extra - a girl. Unwilling to kill her, Jon takes her captive. Stonesnake, does not like this, she is a spearwife & would gladly kill them. Her name is Ygritte. She tells them to burn the bodies of the dead. Stonesnake throws the bodies off a cliff where they are eaten by Shadowcats.

5feet.of.fury We get ALOT of tidbits from Ygritte‘s story about Bael the Bard & how all the Starks are descended from Bael. The Stark who was flayed by a Lord (Boltons), that gods hate kinslayers even unknowing ones. The other rangers won‘t take Ygritte as a captive & order Jon to kill her. Ygritte says Jon can join with Mance. But he wouldn‘t abandon the Watch. He raises his sword, but in the end he lets her go. (edited) 3mo
majkia Wow. I hadn't remembered Ygritte's tale. More blue roses.... More prophecy. Rereading is doing a lot for me, anyway. :) 3mo

Bklover @majkia Me too!! 3mo
5feet.of.fury @majkia @Bklover I haven‘t read this one! I‘m just hoping GRRM gets more of these books out soon so I can see what he had planned for all this before the show lost its way 3mo
BooksNBowls @majkia I loved hearing the history too! I don‘t remember them going into much in the show! (edited) 3mo
BethM This was so interesting! Also ended differently (at least so far) for Ygritte than the show. 3mo
Roary47 I‘m hoping by letting her go something good will happen for Jon. 3mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 same. he deserves some good karma 3mo
