Meereen is quiet after being conquered -except for the flies from all the corpses
The council she left to rule Astapor fell, the new King allies with Dany against Yunkai, but he has been made more Unsullied. She doesn‘t know how to control cities as she travels
She calls her knights:Barristan tells why he served Robert &why he supports her.Jorah has been informing on her up until Qarth. Hurt, she banishes him
She will stay &learn to rule in Meereen

BethM I think it‘s a poor choice to stay 4w
Roary47 For me I‘ve lost interest in this storyline. I‘m glad she banished him, but I‘m hoping there is more eventful moments here soon. 4w
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 same, she‘s so disconnected from everyone else still 4w

attacked by an old foe, Arstan saves her which leads to conflict w/Jorah. Arstan is Ser Barristan Selmy (Commander of Kingsguard under Robert, dismissed by Joff)

Dany is in Yunkai &meets with the sellswords, gifts 1 a wagon of wine. A leader comes to pay off Dany, she tells him he has 3 days to free everyone
With enemy deliberating, Dany will attack that night
Daario comes to them &says Stormcrows will join her, Jorah is wary.Dany thinks he‘s just jealous
Arstan tells her of the tourney, Rhaegar, his love for Lyanna. Interrupted with news her army has taken Yunkai easily, the people call her “mother”

Roary47 She is such a strong force! I don‘t feel any anxiety for her like I do the others. It‘s like an obstacle is place if front of her and I shrug and know she will figure it out. 2mo
BooksNBowls I feel like Dany is really growing into her own in this book, she‘s trusting her instincts and maturing even more as a ruler, which really comes quite naturally to her honestly despite how young she is. I‘m glad she told Jorah to eff off bc he‘s become quite irritating 🙄 Daario‘s got game 😂 2mo

5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls what better gift than the severed head of your enemy? Top that, Jorah 2mo
BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury 🤣🤣 I loved the side by side comparisons of the two of them. I know she‘s trying to get it in, a little d from D 😏😂 2mo
BethM @BooksNBowls couldn‘t have said it better. Also had a little laugh like oh girl the pretty ones will get you every time 😂 2mo
BooksNBowls @BethM I‘m just gonna pretend we aren‘t talking about a 14yo girl 🙃 but I guess when you slay entire cities and command an army of thousands age kinda goes out the window 😅 2mo
BethM @BooksNBowls honestly it‘s a plot point I have to ignore bc of the ick factor 😂 also it pisses me off. You didn‘t have to make any of them that young. 2mo

Dany goes to buy all the Unsullied including the trainees. The negotiations are shrewd &Dany has to sell Drogon in the deal. Her dreams haunt her. The exchange is made the next day, but the slavers can‘t get Drogon to obey. With her order “dracarys” Drogon breathe fire on the masters, the Unsullied defend Dany & attack the masters& soldiers.

Dany pretends not to understand High Valerian to catch the slaver unaware, but he tells of the atrocities done to the Unsullied freely. Drugged, sterilized, named after vermin, forced to kill infants. Artan advises it goes against the gods. Back at the ship, she wrestles her thoughts, Jorah advises: what he saw after battles is as bad as what Unsullied were commanded to do. But she knows that to follow in Rhaegar‘s legacy, she must lead free men

Bklover This chapter was hard to read. What they do to the unsullied is horrific. Killing babies and puppies, torturing them to make them strong- this was awful! Smart Dany for pretending not to speak the language. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Bklover I had to skim the part about what they were serving for dinner 🤢 2mo
BethM @Bklover you said it all. I always wonder about authors that can write horrors like that. 2mo

Her dragons have grown to the size of small dogs. They learn to breathe fire. Drogon is taking to flying off in his own. Whitebeard gives a Targaryen history lesson. Jorah thinks he can‘t be who he says. He tries to explain how they could have conned her. Jorah tells her that they should go to Slaver‘s Bay to get an army, sell Illyrio‘s goods to buy them. Jorah makes his move, but Dany reminds him his place. He suggests to be her husband.

Doppoetry You know... I'm not complaining that they've changed Ser Jorah in the TV show for the better. 😬 3mo
5feet.of.fury @Doppoetry I can‘t remember the show enough, but the end of the chapter didn‘t seem familiar… a bit creepy 3mo

Doppoetry @5feet.of.fury I remember him being very noble and loyal and not at all like a big creep 3mo
Bklover I don‘t remember him as good. 🤨 3mo
BethM Ewwww 3mo
BooksNBowls @Doppoetry I think everyone is a bit creepier in the books. The age difference is just a lot to wrap your head around. These kids are so YOUNG!! 😩 3mo
BooksNBowls @Bklover he might have been better than most but most of his intentions were for selfish reasons. He always had a creepy thing for Dany tho.. yuck 3mo
Doppoetry @BooksNBowls oh yeah definitely. The show really toned down a lot of the creepiness. 3mo
Roary47 Yeah, that was random and creepy. 3mo

Dany earns her 1st braid from her victory over the maegi. The remaining Warlocks plot against her. They have worn out their welcome anyway as Xaro turned bitter after failing to coerce a dragon from her.
She thinks again of the prophecy, her brother Rhaegar‘s baby “the prince that was promised”.
Dany &Jorah are attacked & 2 men, Arstan &Strong Belwas assist them, they were sent by Illyrio to bring her (& her dragons &khalasar) to Pentos.

Bklover Foreshadowing. 4mo

Bklover Yes! 4mo
BethM That can‘t be their names right? I‘m going with Varys and the old kings guard dude who fled. 4mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM I didn‘t even consider anyone sneaky! I think Varys is too into espionage for a bold tactic like this, but we‘ll see! 4mo

Dany explores an ancient ruin with the help of a warlock & sees visions of the past & future. She gets lost in the maze of doors & goes on her own path instead of that shown by the warlock & she meets the Undying Ones. They claim to have sent to comet to guide her. They show themselves as blue faced & cold before the ruin is engulfed in flames. The warlock tries to attack Dany but the bloodriders intervene.

5feet.of.fury Any thoughts on these visions? 4mo
majkia @5feet.of.fury Real hints on the coming action. In particular the birth scene. Don't want to say more cuz of spoilers. 4mo

BooksNBowls @majkia defintely some foreshadowing!! 4mo
BethM Definitely some foreshadowing. I was so glad she had her dragon with her! 4mo
Roary47 I appreciate no spoilers everyone. It is so interesting that she had the opportunity to see these things. Was that Ned she saw in the one area? It sure sounded like him. 4mo

Dany has tried to appeal to the Qartheen Pureborn for a fleet &soldiers but they said no. She contemplates her options, not wanting to be a beggar as when Viserys was alive, but any option but the Iron Throne feels like quitting. She receives a prophecy, “to go north you must journey south, to go west you must journey East”. Jorah does not think going back to Asshai would be wise, but it would be best to leave Qarth & stay ahead of their enemies.

Roary47 I‘m glad she has the advice about cultures. Like you could marry again, but your groom can ask for something… and you got dragons that can make him Uber ruler. 5mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 agree, I‘m glad she‘s getting good advice 5mo
Bklover It‘s interesting that she seems less certain of herself than she did in the series. Makes her seem younger. (edited) 5mo
BethM @Bklover I Agree! That really showed itself in this chapter. I remember the series as her being more strong willed and cunning there. 5mo

They arrive in Qarth, they show every generousity to The Mother of Dragons but, smartly, she remembers Mirri‘s treachery. Dany sends Jorah to look for a ship to sail them home. Ser Jorah returns with a guest, &the news that King Robert is dead. He also tells of the infighting amongst the Lords vying for the crown, just as Dany had seen the khalasar do once Drogo died. But he is not sailing soon enough to take Dany on her mission.

Roary47 I was amazed that it took that long for her to hear of Robert‘s passing. It seemed like Robert received word of her a lot sooner. Maybe it‘s just because their region was undergoing a lot of change? 5mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 we haven‘t seen much of Dany yet this book, most of it so far she‘s just been wandering the desert trying to stay away from the other khals. a lot has happened since the last time she was in a city! 5mo
BethM @5feet.of.fury good point- she hasn‘t had much access to news 5mo
