Passing | Nella Larsen

It describes what was happening in 1920‘s with interracial relations, society integration and genre position. After Clare ‘s father died, she moved with some relatives, and passed as a white woman hiding her childhood living in poverty in a dysfunctional home. She married for ambition with white man that “hates” black people not knowing that Clare had black heritage. Clare will reunite with an old childhood friend, Irene.⬇️

Gissy Then we‘ll see tension between these two “friends” based on how they perceive their circumstances passing as white women. According to the introduction, Clare represents the modern woman in those time. Terrible Clare. I recommend to read first the novel and then the introduction. The end is vague but you can infer what happened. I didn‘t expect it m, to solve the situation in that manner? So who was “worst”? The author‘s life was also difficult⬇️ (edited) 2y
Gissy Cont. It was difficult to read, terrible how Clare‘s husband described his feelings against black persons. So much hate. In the introduction there are some legal cases mentioned about this period of time. 4⭐️

2nd book in the series. I expected more from this book but in general I liked it not loved it. DeMarco will take some leave with Jayme. He is still managing what happened in the first book (no spoiler) and is considering retirement. But during this leave, he is asked to resolved a cold case: 7 young girls were murdered one each year, only their bones were found and the apparently responsible wasn‘t incarcerated or maybe was someone else. ⬇️

Gissy In this book DeMarco is in a constant introspection about his past and what he wants for his near future. You have to be attentive to those first pages velvety related with some of the actions during the book. Interesting what happened between the psychologist and DeMarco. 3.5⭐️I‘m still want to know what is going to happen next.

Second book in this series. We are going to know more about some characters specifically about Ronan. There are some funny parts between Noah and Blue and Gansey and Blue and Maura and The Gray Man. That Calla can be so direct, no filter when she speaks😂and there are other situations regarding of what Gansey is looking for. However, an unpopular opinion, I found some repetitive parts with this character Kavinsky and the cars🙄3.5/3.8⭐️

Three women decided to share their talents in this bookshop in California. The novel is about the lives of these women: Mikki, divorced, Ashley wants to marry but it seems her boyfriend has other plans and Bree who doesn‘t believe in permanent relationships. There will be drama to resolve all these family, couple, trauma issues, with support. There are some funny parts. It was okey but I liked it in general. Mikki‘s mother made me laughed. 3⭐️⬇️

Tangerine: A Novel | Christine Mangan

I‘m always late but this is the first book read during #AwesomeAugust Readathon @Andrew65
Mixed feelings with this novel. Alice married John without knowing him well and moved with him to Tangier, a convenient marriage for John. But Alice is not adapting well to this new life. Then a supposedly friend, uninvited, arrived to visit Alice. Something happened between Alice and Lucy when they were in college. Lucy seems obsessed with Alice⬇️

Gissy What happened during that time? Who is this Lucy? The novel goes from the past during Alice and Lucy college time to the present. You are not going to like any of these characters. Betrayal all the time. That aunt is terrible. The end is a twist that most people are not going to like at all. You can feel desperate with Alice poor judgement. But I liked how characters were developed and with the descriptions, you can feel you are in Tangier.3⭐️ 2y

I love a story well-told from multiple points of view. In this one we meet a Parisian suburb community of au pairs and their families in 2016. Reading the description I expected a mystery surrounding the death of a child, but I‘d say the mystery takes a backseat to the tales of the women connected to the tragedy. I was entertained from beginning to end.

Reading it was my first goal for the #AwesomeAugust Readathon!

Kammbia1 Interesting premise for a story. I might have to check this one out. Also, I will be in Paris (and Strasbourg) for vacation in about 10 days. This story might give me some local flavor. Thanks for the recommendation. 2y
