This is a great story for autumn with its beautiful prose about that season. It has some really weird Christian references that I didn‘t really see adding to the story (the story would be just as good without them) and possibly even detracting from it a bit. This is quite an adventure that is certainly worth the time. I love that the same groups that went after this book also burned the Harry Potter books.

TheBookHippie @GingerAntics Yes it‘s a whole series. I believe I‘ve read all of this author -my favorite as a teen was Camilla. Dark and I had never read a book with a marriage that wasn‘t good and a mother that was 🤯 like mine. It was soothing. 3y

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I feel like I spend half my life shouting from the roof tops. Kids aren‘t stupid, they‘re just short. They tend to gravitate toward books, movies, and shows that present life realistically. Those also tend to be the books that get banned, sadly. 3y

kspenmoll @TheBookHippie This author was magical for me too. I did read the series, but this first was my favorite. I did reread this a few years ago & still enjoyed it. I should try & reread some of the others in the series because I remember so little! @GingerAntics 3y

GingerAntics @kspenmoll I talked about banned books with my high school students every year and the vast majority of them didn‘t even know books could be banned. Inevitably, someone always asks “isn‘t this unconstitutional?” I‘ve even done it with college freshmen and sophomores, same reaction. They‘re so interested and rightfully outraged. I love it!!! 3y

The Book of Dust | Philip Pullman

It sat on my shelf for two years, but I'm finally diving in to #TheBookofDust! I am a huge #PhilipPullman fan so my expectations are fairly high.

P.S. I just re-read #AWrinkleinTime and...meh. I barely remembered it from 8th grade so I wanted to revisit it, as I know it is loved by many. I didn't hate it, but I expected more. I wanted certain ideas to be better fleshed out, and for it to be more climactic. I'll stick with #Pullman and #Rowling.

Picked up A Wrinkle in Time , so my daughter and I could listen to it in the car. It's read by the author, and I'm having a hard time with her voice. Hopefully we'll be able to get through it.
