5🌟 The ending is an absolute shock. The last 3 chapters are a complete shock. I guess I never had any clue what this book was about. I‘m glad I decided to try it tonight. I love the Narnia references an the kids as Queens and Kings. I loved how this was a story that could be any two kids. This was just a great book. The ending almost made me cry. I‘m going to have to check out the movie now. I hope it‘s as good as this.

GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan I‘m actually listening to an interview with Katherine Paterson and her son David who co-wrote and coproduced it. They‘re both saying that they needed to make sure it was true to the little girl who was really Lisa. 5y

TobeyTheScavengerMonk This just destroyed me as a kid. I picked it up because it gave off a Narnia vibe but didn‘t know what I was getting into. I still love it though. 5y

LibrarianRyan @GingerAntics it might just be where you are located. I was a children‘s librarian in Denver and knew all the popular books, what was hot, what I had to get kids to take a chance on. Then I moved back home to Illinois and it was completely different big books in Denver were unheard of here, and some older so so books were weeded in a Denver because they were so so. Has a lot to do with education standards, population, poverty level, etc. 5y

GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan Hm that‘s an interesting thing to consider. I was also just thinking about how this book is often challenged because it deals with death and “death isn‘t appropriate for 10 year olds.” It easily could have been removed from our library. I went to a private school with a small, sheltered library that was a bit smaller than the classrooms...in the basement, in fact. lol How fitting. A too small room in the basement. 5y

LibrarianRyan @GingerAntics you are correct. The death thing does play in to funding and poverty. If you are a library or a school which are you more likely to purchase : an little known author who book may be seen as problematic, or a classic proven in other school. Heck with current funding that argument is still heavily in play. 5y

GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan heck, I‘m kind of surprised schools haven‘t just gotten rid of libraries in favour of all digital these days. The national school system doesn‘t care one bit about actually educating schools. Just look at “common core.” 🙄 5y

LibrarianRyan @GingerAntics don‘t get me started. Denver suburbs were building schools without libraries and expected the public library to pic up the slack. Which luckily they were funded well enough to do so. And pushed to make a library card a required school supply. Made my life fun, but worse for the kids. 5y

GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan that‘s not right. That is just not even remotely right. Going to the school library, library time, was such a treat. It was a privilege and if were naughty in the library you had to sit in the principal‘s office on the next library day and no one wanted that. Why make kids hate the library? No desire to teach kids anything useful. None at all. I‘m sorry, I don‘t understand people who think their kids are at such an advantage there. 5y

GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan 🤦🏼‍♀️ I can‘t even. Why should kids know how to read? It might make them think original thoughts and ask questions when they are told to start persecuting minorities or find themselves persecuted with them. FFS 5y

LibrarianRyan @GingerAntics trust me I agree. The other thing happening here is they keep the library but do away with the librarian. Replace then with a TA or a volunteer. Many that do this buy books by committee. 5y

I got my 1st tattoo 2 months ago, & this photo fresh on the table is still the only one I've got. It's a #bookishtattoo -inspired by #bridgetoterabithia.

It's a fancified version of the wreath that Jess makes for Leslie, using the natural flora & fauna from their forest: pine boughs, crabapple blossoms & fruit, spring beauties, & cardinal feathers. We can all be Kings & Queens of Terabithia, if we keep wonder & imagination alive.

I love these books and their movies! I loved the movie for #TheLastUnicorn as a child and when I found out it was a book first (in Jr. High) I rushed out to buy it! Such a happy day for me! Lol #MadeIntoAMovie #SeptPhotoChallenge #WhereTheRedFrenGrows & #BridgeToTerabithia also also qualify for #MadeMeCry (and ugly cry at that - every time - both books and movies) #PrincessBride & #Austenland made me laugh until I cried. Oh, the joy of books!💕📚
