As a teacher of argumentation, I am very interested in this look at the power of effective communication, with examples ranging from Trump, Monty Python, the Supreme Court, and the NFL, to political spin, Holocaust denial, creationism, andthe logic of toddlers. #StanleyFish #APLang #Harper

MrBook He's a great writer 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! 7y

Early Saturday morning at school, giving my #APLang students their second practice exams. All 16 kids arrived on time, bleary-eyed and sweatpant-clad. 👍🏼🤓 #PumpkinSpicePower

Ellsbeth I used to do this when I taught AP US History. I hope you have a productive morning and your students learn a lot from the mock test! 8y
Leniverse What does the AP stand for? American something? 8y
saresmoore Genuinely, this represents some of my fondest high school memories! (I was the girl in the back, pretending to be bleary eyed behind geeky glasses with three no.2 pencils in a row on my desk. 🤓) 8y

Bookgirl @Leniverse advanced placement. Helps kids get into college or possibly even gives some college credit 8y
heikemarie @Leniverse @Bookgirl Thanks to AP I did not have to take any math or science courses in college, and I was able to double major and double minor and still graduate on time with all the English and Spanish credits I brought in. AP was a lifesaver! 8y
JSW To this day I still count my perfect AP Lit score as one of proudest achievements. #brag I had an amazing teacher and class. 8y
nadine_swartz That's done dedication! Good luck to all of you! 8y
Scurvygirl Ugh.. my daughter just took her second Pre-SAT but she has all her AP ones coming up in history and english. She'll be in AP sciences next year in prep for animal sciences. She wants to be a vet. English is killing her or more accurately the teacher isn't prepared. 8y
Spiderfelt Second practice exam? Wow. My daughter's AP LA class hasn't had a single practice, nor have I heard of any upcoming exams. You're a great teacher to give the students so much advance planning. 8y
Leniverse @Bookgirl @inwhichHeikereadsharder Thanks. School systems around the world are so different from each other! 8y
Leslie Barbara Murphy was my AP workshop teacher. Made me love teaching AP 8y
Leslie Spiderfelt--don't worry, many ways to skin the AP cat. I teach 4 different courses-lots of time to get practice in 8y
BookishMarginalia @leslie Barbara Murphy was my teacher too! I'm a better teacher because of what she taught me. 8y
BookishMarginalia @Spiderfelt My school has a tradition of spacing the practice tests out during the year and the students are accustomed to coming in Saturday mornings to take them. In my previous school I would have had a revolt had I attempted to do this! 8y

LectricSheep Looks interesting! Would you recommend it as a resource for a writing tutor, or is it very AP-focused? 8y
BookishMarginalia @LectricSheep it's very good at providing interesting material for students to think and write about, but it's not really about writing itself 8y
LectricSheep @BookishMarginalia I'll have to check it out. Thanks! 8y
