I loved this! I immediately was sucked in and was wondering what was going on. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what could possibly be happening. I loved that this story also dives into deeper problems of parent/child trauma and linking it back to the main story. One critique I have is that I wish the characters were more dimensional. They seemed very surface level. 5/5

I went into this blind and absolutely loved it! This is the best creepy book I've read in a while. The style reminded me of Stephen Kings It, with a relationship revolving around a childhood friend group who comes together years later after their friend vanished. This terrifying sentient house kept me obsessed as each room seemed to get worse. I will definitely be looking into this authors other novels.

The first of 3 haunted house books I read in a row —the first two I chose almost at random, the third I thought “why the hell not at this point.” The premise is unsettling—one of five friends ascends a mysterious stair in a forest one night and simply vanishes. Great atmosphere and visuals, but the characters can be insufferable and it falls apart in the last third.

“People do the stupid shit *they have always wanted to do* when they‘re drunk, man, c‘Mon.”

A couple of boring and dry books that didn‘t get more than 50 pages out of me, but The 10 was incredible and I highly recommend it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️interesting take on the lore of staircases in the woods. Dealing with friendships, trauma while giving a unique look at haunted houses. The story stopped and stalled too much for me. Characters felt undeveloped. Needed more exploration. It was just ok.

Creepypasta meets found family in 'The Staircase in the Woods.' The heart of the story rests in the trope of found family and what happens when a friend disappears. The book is reminiscent of early King. The characters are well fleshed out and developed. I enjoyed the creepiness of the staircase in both timelines: when they were teenagers and 20 years later. 5 stars.

As a horror nerd, this one just didn‘t hit for me. A mix of ‘Haunting of Hill House‘ (Netflix version) & ‘IT‘ - but got bogged down by repetition, hollow central characters that veered on vapid, and horror that just felt childish and goofy.

If you don‘t already like horror (like expletives, gross images, etc), this off the table won‘t be for you, regardless.

A 2.5/5 for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had high hopes.

I'm a big fan of Chuck Wendig. He combines horror and supernatural elements together in such a unique way that every book of his I read takes me on a new unforgettable journey.

The decent into madness in this story by one of the characters was truly terrifying. 😱

This was so incredibly good; a unique and creepy story that at its heart is about friendship and how our friendships can help us navigate our lives.
Plus an incredibly unique way to depict how homes absorb our stories. I recommend this book wholeheartedly and know it will stick with me.
